About Me

CURRENT MISSION
To get Couchsurfing to show my correct location, which is GUELPH, Ontario. Looks like that has finally happened.

To be happy and live a good life.

ABOUT ME

I just love CS. CS offers a lot more than I realized when I first joined up. It provides a lot of interaction and information, a lot of it thru active local CS communities. I've always been eager to seek out info from locals about what there is to see and do, so that I don't travel only from a tourist's perspective. CS is designed to provide exactly that, and more. It's the kind of travel I always sought out and did, only organized as a wonderful large scale community so I don't have to do it all for myself. Especially wonderful for shorter term travel, when you just wouldn't have time to make the local contacts otherwise.

We prefer an environment where there is no illegal activity or drug use, or drunkenness. Pls comment on this if you are asking to stay with us, or thinking of hosting us.

It's always wonderful to have a local's advice when travelling to a new place. Whenever I've travelled, I've been gratefult to local people who have pointed out unique and special things. Then one really feels like one has been somewhere different, experienced life as it really happens there, and not just taxied around to a bunch of tourist sites, tho those can B fabulous as well.

I've got a lot of interets, I've travelled a lot, though I do have favourite places that I visit frequently as opposed to feeling a desire to discover the whole world. LOL

I love to travel, either on my own, or with family members. I love to swim, especially in the ocean, but really in any natural body of water. I enjoy walking, sightseeing, touring around with the car, and I do Laughter Yoga and teach ESL. I've been vegan for many years. I enjoy hanging out with other vegans and vegetarians. I have many friends who are not vegan, but veganism is respected within our home. Please mention this if you are applying to stay with us, want to make sure you have read the entire profile. I have a particular love for Arizona, and have spent much time there.

PHILOSOPHY

I have thought about philosophical, ethical, mystical issues a lot, and have come to the conclusion that there may be no absolutes, and if there are, why would I assume I had it all figured out? The basic goodness of each person is a lot more important to me than what they believe, generally speaking. I do believe in not killing or enslaving others, hence I am a vegan. I do the best that I can in this lifetime. I love nature, and I think it's great to be in tune with it. It's wonderful to spend time in the outdoors. It keeps us in touch with the greater realities.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

SWIMMING. I would like to get together with people for swimming, either local couchsurfers, or travellers. I can take you to a local lake and we can have a swim. I'm planning on getting myself organized for house guests in the future, but for now, i would certainly be glad to meet up with people and show them around this area, if our schedules coincide. I'm pretty flexible time wise.

I really enjoy the local community groups as well, It's wonderful to meet up with and chat with local couchsurfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been on long road trips where I have met people and stayed with them from time to time. I've certainly had my share of guests, especially when I had a much bigger place. I participated in student exchanges with people from Quebec years ago, which led to a lot of great trips arranged on my own. When I lived in Australia and went on road trips, people would often pass on lists of people one could visit and/or stay with. Couchsurfing is the natural evolution for a style of travelling that I adapted to years before I heard of the CS , and it's so wonderful to have this quick and easy way to interact with other like minded travellers.

Interests

Swimming in the great outdoors, long car trips, walking, Laughter Yoga, dancing. I love to grow my own food organically in my backyard garden. lots of other things. I'm a long time vegan and strive in my life not to cause suffering to others. I love to cook and eat good vegan food. For the most part I eat healthy, but am open to occasional vegan treats. I love Vegan Donuts, and the best place I've discovered so far is Ronald's Donuts in Las Vegas. Le Caves in Tucson is also great, though not as many varieties as Ronald's. If you have discovered any good vegan donuts, pls email me and tell me where. I'm compiling a list. LOL

Music, Movies, and Books

I love comedies, and also older movies, meaning like 40's and 50's flicks, some 60's. I am a big fan of the blues, especially Ray Charles , and some old style cheerful rock, also some melodic opera and operatic type music e.g. Deanna Durbin, Mario Lanza. I like lots of contemporary music as well, generally stuff that's fun to dance to. I have read a lot, all kinds of things, mainly nonfiction, but I do like a good fiction, especially humorous or light hearted, just to get my mind off things for a few minutes here and there. Kind of like some people use a beer, only I'm not much on drinking, so if I need to zone out, it's usually with a comedy video or a fun book. (Or a swim if it works out!!)

The last few years I have discovered the Kitchener Blues Festival, held each summer in nearby Kitchener,Ontario. If you are a blues fan, check it out on the net. Always has a number of big name acts, and lots I haven't heard of. There are 3 sound stages, and it goes for at least 3 days. Worth putting on your travel agenda if you are in the area around the right time. Most of the entertainment is FREE.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are several things that come to mind, but one time I was driving up near the north east coast of Australia, and they were burning the cane fields. This is something they do before they cut the cane, to get rid of the lower leaves and snakes and other critters. Strangely enough, they didn't see the need to close the roads while they were doing it. I drove throough a blazing inferno. I have read that they are trying to phase out burning the cane

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach vegan food preparation, cooked, baked, raw and Laughter Yoga. Everyone has something interesting to share, and I am open to it. I can definitely consult on gardening techniques, diet, natural health. I've tried a lot of things, always up for a good chat about natural health. Always eager to get new tips on any of these topics too.
