ABOUT ME

looking for a less egocentric perspective on things. I appear to find it in small but steady increments.

my name is pronounced ma-ee-rah. "ma" as if you're calling your mother, "ee" with a lot of emphasis and "rah" with a solid rolled 'r'. I'll also go by maire (the irish name) or anything in that phonetic vicinity. my former employer started calling me mimi so that's also an option.

I like precision in speech and careful consideration. but precision doesn't equal lack of inventiveness. to me, it's frequently the opposite. also, I think about metaphors on the regular and I am positive that they don't always make for poetic or obscure speech.

I let myself change. for better or worse. that is my consistency.

I'm 67% banana.

privileged white cis woman; feminist, trying to be more aware of intersectionality. I am pro hacker culture, pro bike activism, pro minority movements, pro lots of good things I don't actually help forward. I suspect getting more involved would make things better.

slightly bipolar (not of the diagnosed kind; only of the zeitgeist kind). I live intensely even when it looks like I'm just lounging around, is what I'm saying. partially what I'm saying.

so far I haven't done much besides surfing and meeting csers, which isn't exactly building the community but qualifies as helping maintain it. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed oleg's couch in philadelphia, jon's in san francisco and fiona's in london and have met csers in new york, philly, chicago, madison, brasilia, san francisco. I have tried to find a cs-friendly houseshare in london but got a job in lewes which was a live-in position in a family house that did not allow me to host, unfortunately. back in brazil I was able to host once in Brasilia before the "couch" became permanently occupied because of family issues. in alto paraíso, I have so far hosted only one person. I am living in são paulo for the moment, so unfortunately I can't host (sharing an apartment).

as far as tv series go, I love doctor who, game of thrones, mad men, in therapy, enlightened, loved the hour and have just started watching masters of sex. I also like some comedies like parks & recreation, new girl and I have watched all of seinfeld, of course. I have a soft spot for brit mini series such as north and south, cranford, brideshead revisited and others.

I can teach you a bit of portuguese and will love talking about languages and comparing them if possible.

I'll be happy to cook as well as try people's cooking. I'm also ok with cooking together, no control issues in the kitchen.

I want to learn about everything, especially practical things.

if you know of a special kind of meditation technique or martial art, any kind of exercise that purportedly helps getting over oneself, please do tell. as soon as you can.

I can cook, make drinks, play lousy guitar, wash the dishes, sing karaoke, and, if they're so inclined, I can have really long and over-analytical conversations that alternate between utter awe and nihilistic despair.
