About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Having a good time. Looking for new experiences! I really like to travel everywhere, that's what I have been doing last couple of years. Very lucky. Meeting hospitable and interesting people is the biggest fundament of travelling!

ABOUT ME

Hi all! I'm Joeri from the Netherlands. When I travel I prefer to get to know the culture, the food, the people, the history and the way people think and their ideas; actually how all things work. People see me as a down to earth, chilled out, funny, liberal, open, curious and active person.

PHILOSOPHY

When you look back on your life, you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the ones you did. (H. Jackson Brown, Jr)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by exchanging stories, experiences, ideas, travelling tips and just by having good conversations and of course fun! Everybody is unique and has his/her own experiences and background. So everybody can exchange.
When I have my own place again, I would love to show people the place where I come from and introduce them to my friends.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I have met a lot of other CS'ers and stayed at around 25 CS's houses. I love the CS meetings; it's a perfect way to meet a lot of locals and travellers/expats. I stayed at the most friendly and hospitable people. Everytime I'm surprised by the friendliness, hospitality and interesting stories of all the couchsurfing people.

Interests

learning about cultures, societies and religions, long term travelling, nature, playing basketball, skiing and partying, hitchhiking, reading, languages

Music, Movies, and Books

I like many kinds of music; western pop music, music from all around the world like Latin, Arabic and Balkan songs. During relaxing I like to listen to lounge or jazz music. I prefer electronic music for dancing; (deep)house, techno and dupstep. It all depends on the situation ;)

I'm not that much into movies. But these are some I really like; Slumdog Millionaire (it's about India), Life in a day (you can watch this one on Youtube) and Into the wild (a guy leaves society to live wild in the wild).

I prefer to watch documentaries, for example about travelling, cultures, nature, cities and history (or sometimes about any other interesting topic, like engineering or prisons). BBC reporter Simon Reeve made some interesting travel documentaries.
You shouldn't miss these documentaries about how our world looks and works;
-Baraka
-Samsara
-Home
-Into the mind
-Human Planet (it's a series from the BBC)
These 5 documentaries I've always with me to copy to other's computer. So if I stay at your place, I can transfer these to you :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's hard to just mention only one amazing thing. Actually I try to find and create lots of amazing experiences during my life. I travelled a couple of years and there happened many amazing things during these trips abroad. One of the highlights was visiting the nomadic people in rural Mongolia and staying for a month with my Chinese friend in rural China to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
I was lucky to work one year in Norway as a drive test engineer. This was basically driving around this beautiful country to test the mobile network.
In my opinion life is a journey. Therefore I think it's important to visit and live at new places in order to do different stuff and meet extraordinairy people. It's all about broadening your perspectives and get more knowledge about how the world works or doesn't work.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can learn you about the places where I have travelled; lots of stories to share about my experiences in other countries.
Or if you want to learn more about me, the Netherlands, western culture or just have some good fun or a nice meal, contact me!
At the moment I am also quite busy with learning languages. My goal is to speak 5 languages but that's still a long way... For now I focus on Russian and Spanish. In the future I would like to learn French as well. I am always looking for people to speak Russian or Spanish with!! If there is someone who likes to learn Dutch or improve their English, I can help too!
