About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See the beautiful world and all the life in it

ABOUT ME

I was born in Osaka, Japan, and after 4 years I moved to Ramat-Gan, Israel, where I lived for 7 years.. Then, at the age of 12 I moved to Singapore, finished high-school, moved to Kelowna and done my bachelors, now living in Vancouver and studying for my PhD in an interdisciplinary mix of biochemistry, ecology and mathematics.

PHILOSOPHY

It's difficult for me to say a philosophy that is concrete, sincere, and definable in a few sentences. Of course, as my life changes, my philosophy is affected by whatever present dynamics. A wiser fellow than myself said, sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear, well, eats you..

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I had only two couchsurfing experiences so far, surfing in Belgium and meeting a local in Burma, and it was very positive! I look forward to getting more involved with the community soon... Also finally hosting some travellers, been great so far

Music, Movies, and Books

only the good stuff... recently a lot of traditional folk music from Eastern Europe and Turkey. Jazz is an all time favorite, I like a few classical composers too like Brahms, Stravinsky, Mahler, some renaissance (gesualdo, ockeghem, josquin des prez)... Books Gary Snyder is an all-time favorite, and right now I've been reading a lot of nonfiction, works by Wendell Berry, EcoJustice Education, articles by Dorothy Day, Gregory Bateson's ecology of mind...

I like philosophy from all cultures, Daodejing, Wittgenstein, Patanjali yogasutra, Plato, Poincare, Locke, Dogen, Tufu, Aldo Leopold, Ray Dasmann, Thoreau. I would even consider Margalef's writing as philosophical, even though he is a more "pure" mathematical ecologist... Check him out!

I like many poets, classical Chinese, Beat poets, Pound, Eliot, Dickinson, Lawrence, Saigyo, Ikkyu, Sun Bu'er ... Big passion for folk tales, proverbs, koans, fairy tales (whatever you wanna call them) from around the world.. pretty much any kind of theatre (but I don't know much about musicals). I'm sure we'll find something in common!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For different people, different things seem amazing... If we ever get to talk, I am sure that the world will bring up amazing experiences for us to share

Teach, Learn, Share

I have an insatiable thirst for learning anything..

I believe that one learns like a snowball: whenever it grows bigger and acquires more knowledge, its surface area to all that there is to be learned grows as well. Indeed, the more you learn, the less you realize you know...

I enjoy telling, reading and listening to stories, jokes, anecdotes...

I also enjoy sharing, playing and talking about music, I feel that in today's world it is the best (and one of the only) ways into the culture and the people of a particular place where I am traveling.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Cambodia, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Laos, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
