About Me

CURRENT MISSION

You're only on this earth once. Make the most of it while you're here.

ABOUT ME

49% outgoing
51% quiet/reserved
100% awesome

Low-key, with a wry, tongue-in-cheek sense of humor and a knack for navigation. I'm not the loud, "life of the party" type, but awesome, definitely a positive, funny guy. I am on the introverted side, depending on the setting, so I'm trying to use CS as a way to come out of my shell and to meet some fun people. *phew*, what a vulnerable mouthful!

PHILOSOPHY

A good churchman is always up in everybody's shit. That's just how we do. - Deacon, The Wire
"I only pray when I'm in trouble. But I'm in trouble all the time so I pray all the time." - Isaac Bashevis Singer
"If Tolkien was alive today he'd just cruise around in a '78 Ram with the Eye of Sauron painted on the hood. One Van to Rule Them All, One Van to Find Them!" - Questionable Content
"Sarcasm - it's a good way to deal" - Amy Barksdale (if you know what TV show this quote comes from, we're already good friends and don't even know it yet)
What the initials of degrees really stand for, according to Owen Kelso (old college buddy): Bull Shit, More Shit and Pile it Higher and Deeper.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm still getting the hang of CS, and can't wait to get out to some events and get-togethers to meet some new friends.

Interests

I enjoy making new friends, spending time with people who I value, and spending quality time. Not just catching up about work or the latest TV show, but having good, deep conversations. I am also an avid coffee drinker (and am presently sitting in a Starbucks, fleshing out my CS profile), and love finding off-the-beaten-path places to go and things to do. So if I'm in your city, I'll want to know more about what you locals do than about what touristy things there are.
And, I write fiction. Maybe the next Great American Novel, maybe just a collection of unfinished stories. Most likely a little bit of both.
Remember how I said I'd rather talk about meaningful things than TV shows? That's still true, but if you know what Senor Chang or the Bluth Banana Stand are all about, we're gonna get along just fine.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in college, I would save up all semester long at my minimum wage food service job (still won't go near a grill) and buy a Greyhound Ameripass, and then plan out my itinerary - people I wanted to meet, places I wanted to visit, and so on.
One year, my travels brought me to Minneapolis (it's to my great shame and hopefully your amusement that I went to see the Mall of America). What blew my mind? Getting back to the Greyhound station for my bus to Chicago and seeing it come in from Seattle full, and leave full. Plus the madhouse that ensued when a replacement bus was sent out. I was too polite to push and shove, so I ended up spending the night at the station and just making it onto a morning bus by the skin of my teeth.
Thankfully, most of my trips weren't that... eventful.
Airplane travel leaves me awestricken. Think about it; you walk down a carpeted hallway, sit in an upholstered chair, and a few hours later, walk down another carpeted hallway in another time zone, another coast, another country, even. Seriously, something about that is amazing.
