Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

During my travels, many a benevolent soul gave me both a couch (or bed or private room) as well as hospitality, love, kindness, a welcoming spirit.

Now that I have a permanent residence and am in school/work most of my time, I can pay it forward.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been hosted by many in: Thailand, *especially* India, Nepal, Israel and Palestine. No luck in Vietnam. New Zealand was welcoming, but SO expensive. I have also been to meet-ups here in NYC for couch-surfers meeting up, and occasionally meet a roaming backpacker for drinks to discuss....everything!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like reading historical fiction, memoirs, ethnographies, cookbooks....

For movies, I can watch anything and get into it, but i'm into the epic historical dramas and most socio-cultural documentaries.

For music, progressive metal, instrumental, world, indie, 90's alternative (reminds me of childhood)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Getting from Palestine back into Jerusalem without a passport, hiding in the back of a van, and being saved by a complete stranger (couldn't speak the same language) at the government checkpoint.

Once, while camping, I was asked to help a guy set up his surprise engagement party for his girlfriend, about 2 miles off the road near the dead sea. He spoke hebrew and I spoke english, but the message was conveyed and I was part of a beautiful celebration and was rewarded with a half dozen unopened bottles of champagne. Moments like this <3

Please ask me in person. I have dozens of examples that bring me to tears.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been blessed with life changing experiences. No typed essay could do it justice. Meet me and ask! Share!

"You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him"
- James D. Miles
---------------------------
“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”
― Mother Teresa
