Finding a mission

ABOUT ME

I am still figuring out what I want to be - in the mean time I like to try out as much as possible, trying to keep the balance between making enough money to pay the rent, and having time and energy left for writing. I love to cook - big meals for friends with fresh ingredients from the market. Right now I have a great home in Neuköln, Berlin, near to the Maybachufer market and the water, I love it.
Like most people on CS I love traveling - especially by bike (with a tent) or hitchhiking. Traveling by bike is the best thing; it brings life back to a frugal combo of nothing but biking, eating, sleeping and an occasional hot bath - life as simple and good as it can be. I am really into bikes and I am learning about fixing them and building them right now.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've just gotten back from a road trip through Northern Europe on which I have been surfing with local people (sometimes arranged through CS, sometimes spontaneously) and enjoyed it a great deal. I like the concept of people opening up their home for others to stay over, and share what they have - their space as well as their time and their knowledge of the city they live in. I have had some great experiences with hosting people myself too, although I must admit that sometimes I find it hard to make mind-space in my life to host, as I am busy with so many different things already and find it hard to focus.
Over all I strongly prefer to be naive in that way, that I over all choose to trust the world, and think that people basically are friendly and good. In a world where there's a tendency to be afraid of the unknown, and where so many people are reluctant to open up to strangers, I consider it a political / strategic choice to operate differently - couch surfing really fits this way of living and thinking.

Of course it still is difficult to, from a profile, tell whether there'll be a click with a surfer/host. For what I've learned, most important is to clearly communicate what you want out of a surf/host/meetup session - to what extent you want to spend time together, for example. I really don't mind if someone just needs a place to stay for a night and isn't into full-time social stuff - I know from experience that it can be lovely to have a laid-back host in that manner, that you can just be on your own for a bit as well. I see CS as a social structure, but it always depends on whether there is a click in real life, if you spend time together as host and surfer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had super good experiences through CS: stayed at beautiful places with beautiful people, hosted other great people.

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

Old Japanese ladies living in small villages having swallow nests in their houses, old Japanese couples singing to Enka karaoke songs in the middle of a forest, music playing from loudspeakers in Yubari, a bankrupt and abandoned theme park in Japan that I happened to stumble upon... Just 5 milion weird and beautiful things... and other things too. It's these comparatively small things that make me happy, not one BIG thing like sunset with love of lifetime or bungy jumping or whatever - I prefer the weird and the small.

Ensine, Aprenda, Compartilhe

I love to cook together. Teach me your best recipes and I'll teach you mine :) And I can help you out with your downward facing dog and the like.
Anyone who is up for urban exploring and/or biking is more than welcome at my place!
