About Me

We grew up in Berlin, Germany, have been a couple for more than a decade, moved to London together when we were just kids to be where the music we loved was happening. Stayed there for several years full of love/hate for the city- studied, got involved in social and alternative art projects, met amazing people, spent the summers roadtripping abroad, did some growing up.

We have since lived and traveled in a substantial amount of places before spending several years back home in Berlin before we relocated to the British seaside small town last year for professional reasons. Laura is doing a PhD here, while Jos works on performances.

We like empathetic, longwinded, challenging and/or silly conversations; meeting new friends; going to the cinema, theater, galleries, exhibitions, bars; stretchy yoga; boardgames; cooking and baking; exploring nature.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We made our first CS-experiences in South America and met some very special folks doing it! Now we're back in Berlin with a place of our own and hoping to introduce our sofa to lots of amazing people. Some beautiful friendships have already grown out of a few exceptionally awesome couchsurfers we hosted, so overall, our experiences have (luckily) been all good. --> [We are currently in Brighton, in a sublet where we can not host any guests unfortunately. We will again once we are back in Berlin.]

Interests

We are dedicated to projects helping and strengthening our local communities, and believe in grass roots activism, particularly anarcho_a-LGBTQ/feminism, critical whiteness, anti-racism and -repression solidarity work.

We are a queer couple; Jos is a genderqueer person. We want to offer gay/lesbian/bi/queer/(non-binary)trans folks the possibility of staying in a safer space. We will not host people who are remotely racist/anti-semitic/sexist/homophobic/transphobic, so please state in your request that you have read this, that you are aware and respectful.

Some of the things we like, in no particular order: cats and pugs, Eugene Thacker, emotional pop anthems (Celine Dion, Canada's national treasure!), Coney Island, tempeh, neon signs, Baudrillard, licorice/jasmine tea, gender warriors, the Arizona desert, Jenny Holzer, herbs, Eurovision song contest, Foucault, sandalwood incense.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the scope of setting up and helping run a social centre, we were involved in organizing a free cafe in London- an (over)abundance of food is readily available every day, thrown out from markets and shops but still perfectly edible. In a group effort, we served veggie curries, salads, mountains of bread and desserts to over 100 people with no money involved at any stage. Living in one of the most expensive cities in the world, getting a healthy and affordable meal is not a given for everyone. Being involved in this project was a true eye opener in terms of direct actions as positive alternatives.

Teach, Learn, Share

We are bilingual (German-English) and have taught English in the past, and are happy to share or swap language/editing/translation skills! Aside from that, we are also pretty great (vegan) cooks and Laura bakes delicious bread, so all about the communal cooking if you are into that too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

There is always space for treats (tea, candy, spices, just give us a shout) in our luggage!
