About Me

I'm a Bostonian incognito (meaning I don't have any accent), huge beer snob, adrenaline junky (skiing mostly), and Reddit geek. I'm the kind of person who doesn't care where he is or what he's doing as long as it's with the right people. I moved to San Antonio a few months ago for a job in TV news. Before that I lived in Southern Oregon for a couple of years, and Boston most of my life prior to that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I admittedly use CS pretty sporadically. The news business gives you very little time to travel and almost no money with which to do it. But I'm happy to host whenever possible.

As far as history, I've only hosted once so far -- a small group from France working on a documentary. But I've stayed with a few couch surfers over the years and never had a bad experience. This is the first time I have a place where I can comfortably accept guests, so I hope to pay it forward.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Hip-hop (Blackalicious, The Roots, Jurassic 5, Aesop Rock); Jazz & Soul (Miles Davis, Coltrane, Joshua Redman, Sharon Jones); Rock (Rolling Stones, Beatles, Wolfmother); Punk (Gogol Bordello, Billy Talent, The Clash); and the list goes on. I'm a firm believer that there's a right time and place for just about any kind of music.

Movies: Shawshank Redemption, The Dark Knight, Big Lebowski, Serenity, Rocky IV

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done everything from luxury resorts in the Caribbean to fighting stomach bugs at a train station in Agra, India. My travel dreams are to ski the French / Swiss alps, try the steak in Argentina, see the night-life in Barcelona, drink the beer in Germany, and enjoy the pubs in Scotland.

Teach, Learn, Share

Honestly, I don't know too much about San Antonio because I recently got here. As a beer lover, I've learned that the Pearl and the Blue Star Arts Complex are good go-to's. They almost make you feel like you're in Austin.

Everybody usually comes here for the River Walk, which is pretty and worth checking out for sure. I wouldn't stay there long though, it's insanely crowded and full of tourists. Good for kids though.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whether its hosting or just CS meetups, I'm always down to meet up with fellow surfers. I'm happy to share what I know to those new in San Antonio -- or at least newer than me. Being in the news business, you tend to learn an obnoxious amount about an area pretty quickly.

As a guest, I always intend to be gracious. I don't see couchsurfing as just a way to get a free night's stay, I see it as a way to share and learn from others' experiences.
