Turned 60 recently... will visit 50 states in 50 months... Goal is to live in each state for a month and learn about the area

ABOUT ME

Grew up in a small farm town, traveled around the U.S. on business. Now with the Daughter getting Married and youngest out of college. I will be traveling for pleasure. Wanted to ride my bike down the steps of every capital originally. But will be settling for visiting those sites now. Security frowns on it too.

Have been in business, and a teacher, presently painting, helping a buddy do septic work and teaching people to play golf, tennis, bridge and options. Learning about aquaponics and paragliding

PHILOSOPHY

I have been living for my kids for the last 30 years, last one recently graduated college, so they do not need dad around much anymore... that actually started a few years ago.. big surprise huh? Daughter is a musician, other is a "party planner" Both have traveled extensively... now it is my turn.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hitch-hiked around the country in the late 70's, would love to do it again. But it took me 6 hours a couple of years ago to travel 100 miles. So now will be looking for a motorcycle to get around. I have opened my house up to people for the last 15 years. Mom and Dad had international visitors stay with them, whom they still keep in contact with... This was before couchsurfing!

Interests

Want to see every state capital. Learn about that states history. Will see and hike around what I have been missing all of these years.

Love to be outdoors, fishing, hiking, canoeing if near a river or lake (I am from Minnesota) BWCA. But like to play tennis (3.5) and was a scratch golfer (30 yrs ago). I am a good Bridge player as well.

Looking at purchasing a powered parachute and flying around the country. Also learning about aquaponics and helping others build a sustanable food system.

Music, Movies, and Books

Stuart Woods fan, also mysteries or spy thrillers. Watched... How the States Got Their Shape on the History channel. It is great info for travelers! Reading alot about the Cival War. I have been to many of the battle sites on the east coast. It still amazes me they WALKED for many hours/days then fought. Dreadful time in our history. Are we headed that direction again in 2021, it is 160 years ago, Fort Sumter April, 12-13; 1861

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Even thou I lived in Minnesota most of my life.... the coldest I have ever been is in Hawaii! We biked down Haleakala Volcano. It was snowing when we left the summit on Maui just after sunrise. We started above the clouds in a snowstorm. As we were biking down the road the wind was blowing so hard we had to peddle for the first mile of the 10,000 ft hill. We obviously were not dressed for the occasion, snow then sleet then rain and finally sunshine once we desended below the cloud, but 3 hours later we were swimming in the Pacific Ocean

Teach, Learn, Share

Would love to teach others to play tennis, golf or bridge, especially kids. There are just not enough kids who play bridge... ? Even my kids don't like it!
