About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Laying back and enjoying summer!!!

ABOUT ME

Terrible thing to ask, "All about you"!
I would consider having had a rather dull life if I was able to say "All about me" in such a small space!
I was born and raised in Niterói, right beside Rio de Janeiro, where I currently live.
I've had a very pleasant life, so far at least.
Studied in a nice school, with nice friends, played goalkeeper in football - which is a nice way to ensure I never got left out (with everyone decided to shine in the forward lines, good willing goalkeepers are real "keepers" in Brazil!)
I wanted to be a crazy scientist, so I built my own flamethrower (which I was gonna install in my home-built - or dreamt! - attack helicopter!), with which I burnt the first shade of hair growing on my legs.
I wanted to be a sniper, and started training with my uncle's airgun, until I go so good that I could hit the ring of a coke can 30 meters away almost always (I was only 8, and guns are not so common here as many peope believe it!), and then it got boring, and I hardly think I'd be able to shoot like THE CAN at all at 1 meter away...
I was very good at running after lost kites, a skill one needs to develop when one is so bad at FLYING the kites that one lost every single one of them almost the moment it touched left the ground - when one managed to take it off the ground at all!
I made my orthopedist pretty rich by checking-in from time to time with a broken leg, arm, wrist, ankle, finger, finger, 3 fingers at once, finger, finger, and all "normally-breakable" bones in my body, and lucky me I had insurance. Or lucky parents...
I wanted to be a jet fighter pilot, so I joined the Brazilian Air Force as wanna-be-student-cadet, but I never really got used to the military life, and decided to leave.
Decided to be a doctor, and I still don't know if I like it or not. I hope my patiens usually like me!
They say they do, but Dr. House is aways saying patients lie a lot!
And no, I don't wanna be no House MD...

PHILOSOPHY

“I may disagree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting - or trying those I can't host to the fullest of my capabilities
Surfing - not yet, too involved in my own faculty, but give me sometime, and a little money, and I'll hit the road again!
Meeting - I try to go to every meeting around here I can. A little difficult as of lately, but still, whenever I'm in a new city, I try to hit the (normally weekly) meetings there!
And whichever new way appears in front of me!!!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I participated some time ago, some years, going to some meetings in CS Rio with a friend of mine, and then didn't give much thought about it.
Then, one day, a friend of mine coming to Rio asked me if I had CouchSurfing, and I said no, even though I hosted lots of people here - and got hosted in turn.

So I decided to have it, and guess what:
I like it!
All my surfers were great, not a single problem whatsover yet (before and after couchsurfing officially), and so far, getting better!

Interests

Reading!
Right now, after so much pressure, been reading the "A Song of Ice and Fire" wanna-be heptalogy.
So large it is, and so small my leisure reading time as well, that this book is probably going to stay here for a long time...
That, and also the fact that I'm reading Jules Vernes and Sherlock Holmes complete stories, lots of American Literature works suggested by a dear german friend doing her graduation in this area, and a lot of smaller books of Brazilian and Portuguese Literature from my childhood, and that get SOOOOO much better after you're grown up and understand their meanings, and all this at the same time!
Thanks Amazon for the Kindle!

And of course: travelling!
Nothing suits better a nice book than the sound of a planes turbines (or helix, no prejudices), the steel noise of a train's wheels (yes, I love trains more than anything!) or just my feet over some forest leaves...

Almost forgot: learning new languages!
I always ask my surfers/hosts/casual acquaintances for how to say "Cheers!" and "I love you" in every new language I meet!
Currently, I'm struggling with Czech! It sounds so beautiful! Eventually, I'll upgrade my "begginer" to "intermediate" - but probably after finishing med school!

There are many other, but come on! Everyone loves nice music, going out for a coffee, or a beer, or a drink or two (or three or many!), nice chat, inteligent people to discuss any kind of subject, and these things!
And football! In 2014, I'm going to every game I'm able to get tickets to, be it Brazil, Spain, Italy, even Argentina! Not France, they are bad luck for us inside the field in World Cups...

Music, Movies, and Books

Just described it up above:
Movies: I watch them, but I don't get too touched by them usually. I remember them, but don't really care much for them...
Music: Mostly Brazilian music, but I listen to pretty much everything!
Books: I'm in an "Epic" and "Classic" phase, it appears: "A Song of Ice and Fire", Sherlock Holmes, Jules Vernes, Lots of American Literature classics, Brazilian and Portuguese as well (one day, I'll reach the end of Os Lusíadas!), and pretty much everything there is to read.
By lack of reading material, I've caught myself reading the shampoo glass over and over again, or just the instructions for the television, or instructions to the correct use of toilet paper - if that was the only thing available!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, in the Air Force, we had a saying - very fit to annoying our Army and Navy's brothers:

"Our Seas are beautiful, the jungles and forests of our land a marvel to the eyes. But all of them are much nicer when seen from above!"
I didn't fly much, but I did get to see them from above... And it really wasn't just mocking!

Teach, Learn, Share

Why, I can teach you the history of all the Football World Cups, or at least I used to be able to do it...
Or how to prepare Caipirinhas - good ones!
Thinking of it, not much I think...

Countries I’ve Visited
