About Me

Up until very recently I've been nomading our amazing planet with just my laptop and backpack. Since my current profession is that of website designer (for American charities) I've been able to live and work just about anywhere I wanted. (That was awesome.) And this I'd been doing since 2001. In 2005 I co-founded www.nunomad.com which shares a similar living philosophy as CS. For the last couple of years though, I've spent more time here in the States (home)... living in Portland, Oregon. It's where I call home now. As for personal traits, I'd say that I'm pretty organized, tidy, clean, amiable, a conversationalist, temper-less, a non-smoker, and lover of life!

PHILOSOPHY

"€œA life without revelation is no life at all."€
--Haruki Murakami, from Kafka on the Shore.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was pretty active with CS a few years ago in Budapest (pub crawls, cooking parties, etc.) And, should anyone desire information on travel, nomadic living or details on the places I've lived and visited, I'll share! Speaking of sharing, my online photo album is located at www.laptophobo.com.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Only a couple of times (here in the States). But, I've been backpacking the world, often living in strangers homes for the better part of 14 years now. I don't like hotels, but a good bungalow, hut, couch, teepee or hammock is just fine!

Interests

Got lots of 'em. People, and obviously travel, but I'm also a dedicated bicycle rider (from the mountains outside of Portland to the streets of Bangkok), politics (but I'm not a politico), spirituality (non-religious kind) and conversation with interesting and alive folks such as yourself. I'm an author (self-published) and voracious reader. Oh, and I like creative food, wine, craft beer, market places, books, and Chinese teas. Just about anything good!

Music, Movies, and Books

You know that music we grew up with? Well, I'd rather not dwell on it. There's so much new and interesting stuff out there to try. That said, I'm pretty flexible. Same goes with movies. (Don't like gratuitous violence though.) On my short list of favorite flicks is Amélie (Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) and anything with Bill Murray or Ellen Page in it. I haven't own a TV in years. Got lots of books around me though. I've read everything by Tom Robbins, Graham Greene, Haruki Murakami, Christopher Moore, Elmore Leonard, and Carl Hiaasen.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'll toss this out there for now. I consider myself luckier than most. I grew up in a violent, ugly, part of Los Angeles to have been able to experience kooky Cappadocia Valley, make friends in Nepal, drive the north island of New Zealand, to name a few cool places. Was a full-time peace organizer in the 80s where great friendships and memories were made, and peace created. Just so much good stuff. I feel blessed -- most of the time. These experiences have help shape me as a person, a writer, and co-founder of a nomadic community.

Hey, if you've read my profile this far, you'll see that I'm as much of a student as a teacher.
