Chi sono

Hi! I'm Amy, a 30-something looking to maximize happiness in her life before inevitably hitting the crocker. I work remotely on my laptop and enjoy traveling, exploring what's local, walking around, socializing, and hitting up music or art events.

I've been trained in quantitative fields (math, econ, programming), and my love is in the arts and sciences. Some words about myself: ENTP, fairly intelligent, social, highly independent, genuine, kind of funny, actively listening, confident, not an ass, very optimistic. I try to be wise about how I live and how I treat others.

I think people are less awful than our xenophobic culture makes it out to be, and I think there's more to be gained than lost in giving more than you expect to get, hence my presence on CS. I'm a great fan of the principles that originally made CS so viral: that of generosity, giving, and exchange beyond commodified values. I eagerly enjoy hosting, about as much as I enjoy surfing.

I have many personal philosophies. Among them:

Live with passion and a little bit of recklessness. Safety third.
The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all.
Seek to understand before seeking to be understood.
Once you truly understand and remember that life is short, it starts to become quite simple.
To be with the people I like is enough.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Whenever I'm planning a trip or bouncing around the country, I like to use couchsurfing. I use CS to meet like-minded people, make new friends, discover what's local, travel deeply and well, and of course, be reminded of how awesome humanity really is. I'm a fan of the old CS community pre-boom.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've camped, partied, climbed, scuba dived, hiked, surfed, hosted, and dined with a number of amazing and wonderful people through Couchsurfing. I've surfed/lived in a lot of states across the US. I've informally couchsurfed in ways outside of CS. I highly respect this wonderful community and believe in paying it forward.

Interessi

My interests keep changing year to year. I'm mostly an avid conversationalist who can get into most any topic.

And of course, traveling. I enjoy local culture & people and starting a trip without knowing where I'll end up.

Musica, film e libri

This is kind of old, but I'll leave this here --

Music: my musical tastes are everywhere and changes month to month. Jhameel, Walk The Moon, Kanye West, Adele, Frou Frou, U2, Ellie Goulding, Imagine Dragons, Train, Goo Goo Dolls, Neon Trees, Nobody Beats the Drum, Temper Trap, Utada Hikaru, MGMT, The Submarines, Kid Cudi.... I can go on and on. I'll listen to most anything that is not heavy rock/metal or country.

Movies: A ton. Moonrise Kingdom, Fight Club, Crash, Kill Bill Vols 1 & 2, Wall-E, The Incredibles, Inglourious Bastards, Silver Linings Playbook, 300, LOTR, Matrix, Toy Story 3, Benjamin Button, Sweeney Todd, Big Fish, American Psycho, The Ladies Man, Shawshank Redemption, among many many others. The trend seems to be Pixar, Quentin Tarantino, and Tim Burton (as well as anything starring his wife).

Books that have changed me: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Myths of Happiness, Rich Dad Poor Dad, and Thinking, Fast & Slow.... Others: Freakonomics, The Armchair Economist, Drive, most things Malcolm Gladwell... and most any recreational economics book or scientific self-help book. I was a big philosophy reader back in the day.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I was temporarily homeless for over 5 months. During that time, I met amazing people and did great things: I picked up a motorcycle and badly crashed it. I made immediate friends with people across the states whom I then immediately went on awesome adventures with. I found the kindness in strangers, the excitement of always being travel-bound, and in the end, the merits of settlement in a place one calls home.

Insegna, impara, condividi

I've got 1001 theories on how life, people, and the world work, and I like talking about them.

I'm a software developer for tech startups. I love dancing (freestyle), music, karaoke, and making fun of the status quo. I haven't watched TV from when I was 14-27 and am terribly illiterate in pop culture and media.

Cosa posso offrire ai padroni di casa
