About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Float like a coconut

ABOUT ME

I live to collaborate in the shared moment, to create the unexpected and amazing.

PHILOSOPHY

Act with kindness and generosity of spirit.

Find balance in the midst of extremes.

Embrace and learn from that which is new and hold great respect for that which is old.

Appreciate space and simplicity.

You can do this, or you can do that.

Sun Ra said, "You made a mistake, you did something wrong. Make another mistake, then do something right."

See how far you can push the envelope.

In the mountains of southern Japan i found a message painted on a tree stump. It said:

"If we realized that human are only tiny beings.
the world may then become much larger?
So, how can we become tiny?
GO SURFING!"

Interests

I am passionate about music, art, words, the ways that we communicate our own stories and the stories that came before.

My greatest passion is collaborating with other explorers. Two open minds improvising in the moment is a constant experiment. Keep at it and eventually terrific things will happen...

Music, Movies, and Books

So much of my life is filled with music...

Old school funk, lowrider soul, traditional/experimental sounds from around the world, independent Hip-hop, gypsy jazz, modern classical, Indian classical, high life, old-timey, soundtracks, 60s garage rock, mysterious cognac beebop, dub, salty sailor slip jigs, cumbia, rockabilly, afrobeat, free jazz, cosmic disco, gospel, popcorn, doo-wop, calypso, circuit bent bleep bloop, mountain music, tamborito, blues, just as long as it's sincere...

Some musicians that continue to inspire me:

Django, Syl Johnson, O.V. Wright, Celia Cruz, Augustus Pablo, Project Hex, Patrick Adams, Craig Mack, Sun Ra, Caetano Veloso, Ivor Cutler, Bela Fleck, Archie Shepp, Conlon Nancarrow, Ruben Gonzalez, Grigore Kiazim, Joanna Newsom, Nikhil Banerjee, Bukka White, Mississippi John Hurt, Aston Barrett, James Brown, Malvina Reynolds, Scriabin, Mass Influence, Morton Subotnick, Fela, The Fugs, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Professor Longhair and on and on... Most of my favorite songs are from long ago written by artists who are pretty much unknown.

Music makes me happy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbHcg3aMx5s

I read a lot of work by the Beat writers, especially the NY poets from the 50s-70s... Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Ted Berrigan, Gregory Corso, Bill Berkson, Anselm Hollo, Alice Notley, Robert Creeley, Joanne Kyger, William Burroughs, Frank O'hara, Jack Spicer

also

Hemmingway, Kafka, Kundera, Dostoevsky, Checkov, Vonnegut, Bradbury, Paul Bowles, Isabelle Eberhardt, Kathy Acker, Charles Bukowski, Henry Miller, Phillip Roth, Jan Potacki, Lao Tzu...

My favorite film is 'Songs From the Second Floor' which you must see during this life in order to prepare for the next. Enjoy French New Wave, Spaghetti Westerns, b-movies with good soundtracks, paranoid Eastern European philisophical comedies, old sci-fi, kung fu, movies which I'm still thinking about when I wake up the next morning.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in a house of caves in Sacramonte (Granada, Spain) with a stunning view of Alhambra where the sun was so hot that sometimes the mountain lit on fire and the valley below was full of ancient stories and fruit trees.

Teach, Learn, Share

That's the whole idea. My raison d'être.
