Über mich

CURRENT MISSION

My quote of the moment...
"A child miseducated is a child lost." John F. Kennedy

still hot: "Enthusiasm is the most beautiful word in the world." (Christian Morgenstern)

ABOUT ME

Hi there,

I just moved to Mannheim to teach German to refugees and non-Germans... and so far I really enjoy it here :-)

I studied in Freiburg, a very nice city close to Switzerland and France. I like the black-forest and the beautiful landscape starting directly in front of my apartment. Before I started here in 2009 I did a commercial training in Brunswick before I did my A-levels on the so-called "2.Bildungsweg". Before that time me and my friends organised concerts for bands we like. At first the bands were just from the neighborhood but than it became bigger and bigger and we invited bands from Canada, the US, Hungary, the Netherlands... After school I travelled to several music festivals in Germany and the Netherlands before I worked with low-income children and families in the inner-cities of New York. I did some similar work in Germany in Dresden or Bremen before I was sure about my will to make a little change. Maybe I´m an idealist but even I know my ressources will be limited I still believe in that. I like music (chilly or heavy), drinking coffee with my friends, cooking, communcation, other cultures, Settlers of Catan or laying in the sun. My summer mission for that year is to become the best ultimate-frisbee player in the world ;-) I recently started to climb but I´m still a beginner.

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to understand more about other cultures, differences and similarities. I want to avoid typical or new stereo-types or prejudices. I want to learn more about you and your culture. And your perspective onto this world. What is different to your homecountry or city in comparison to my place? Tell me about your view onto that rushy world. Come and relax for a beer or a cup of tea/coffee. Do you like music? What´s actually underground at your place? Maybe we could switch a mix-tape or a CD.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Outside this community I had several visitors I met on concerts, festivals or bc I just organised a concert for them in my hometown. But here.... I just started the adventure.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Everything that supports communication.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

* Organised a completely new programme of an music / poetry slam event on the day of the event with finding 5 new artists within 4 hours in 2011. Unfortunately, the main artist cancelled the show bc. of "Vulkanasche" and no flight possibilities at the afternoon of the day.
... and for me still having a successful and crowded event and keeping a smile the whole time.

* Besides of my very first sky dive jump with that breathtaking free-fall at 13.500 ft and 120 mph in May 2012
I really enjoyed a 30 hours bus trip from CT to New Orleans to voluntarily help in the Katrina Urban Relief Plunge (KRUP) to reconstruct homes that were destroyed in New Orleans on spring break in 2012. It was an unique experience to receive so much thankfulness and appreciation from the people for that work. It really made me think about taking things for granted in life.

* Working as a mascot for the local 1st division soccer Team SC Freiburg for three years during my college years. It is a red fox (called "Füchsle") with a huge head jumping and cheering around the stadium and terraces during game day or on other events. Giving out high-fives, hugs and autograph cards for any fans - young and old.

* I had the unique chance to get a last-minute ticket for the final match-day of my soccer-team VfL Wolfsburg to go there with a friend in 2009. On this day they would find out about making their 1st national championship title in history. Let´s say the game went pretty well and we enjoyed the game from inside the stadium, the celebratory afterwards and the party all-over the city and night.

* In 2013/14 I participated in the English drama group of my university. We were developing a play on "Stone cold" by Robert Swindells. For this we practised for more than 9 months. I had the chance to play two contrary bigger and two minor characters that kept me busy with changing clothes and behaviour during the performance. We did seven performances each attending 200 people. For the serious topic on homeless teenagers I convinced some folks to sleep outside within the downtown section without having a place to stay in mind during December armed only with a sleepingbag.

In May 2015 I have the chance to attend the final match of the national league cup "DfB-Pokal". Me and my brother and dad will enjoy this in the Olympiastadion in Berlin watching my team VfL Wolfsburg hopefully defeating Borussia Dortmund. I´ve never been to a game in this stadium and I am more than exciting for it.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I like to hear and talk about different parts of the world, perspectives and views onto the world.

Since I like cooking I could do some German traditional cooking (beyond stereo-typed Bratwurst or Schnitzel) or also teach you new words or useful phrases on German.
