About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find yet more reasons to get up each morning and enjoy life.To sing, laugh, cycle, have fun, explore, remember and share.

ABOUT ME

I'm one more member of this site who loves exploring and visiting new places! (And more of old favourites too.) I love the wild and untouched places but also enjoy busier places too. Closer to home I am a keen cyclist and a singer with several choirs as well as singing solo - classical to rock, gospel to comedy, musicals to madrigals. I also enjoy spending time with people - meeting new folk, catching up with friends and sharing people's sense of humour!

PHILOSOPHY

Look after your friends, your family, your body. If not, where are you going to live?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't currently have a place to call my own or offer accommodation in, but I'd gladly offer advice or information to prospective couchsurfers or visitors to any of the parts of the world I've visited! I hope to be able to host people soon myself and repay some of the debt I owe to others. If I can put a smile on the faces of some of the people I've stayed with (and so far I've managed that with all my hosts :-D) then I'm happy too! I believe the best way I can keep myself happy is by making life better for the people I care about. Hopefully that'll include you as well soon :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed briefly in Lysekil, Sweden, in 2013 after cycling there from Gothenburg, and also twice in the Faroe Islands this spring (2014). Both were very positive expeiences! I also cycled round Iceland in summer/autumn 2011, raising money for Ljósið, a support centre for cancer sufferers and those with blood disorders in Reykjavik, and for Carers' Resource, helping unpaid carers in Yorkshire. In return I would sing a solo concert for my hosts to say thank you - see www.singaroundiceland.com for more! When I can I hope to return the favour.

Interests

Cycling! Singing and pretty much every type of music you can name - Irish and Scottish traditional, German Jagdhornblaser, gospel, soul, rock, rap, hiphop, electro, dance, metal, classical, shows.. reading, travel, humour, art (I'm an amateur celtic artist), photography.. good food, good company, good times.. ?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

All the wild places I've visited - Scotland, Ireland, Iceland.. Running the London Marathon in 2000. Cycling Lands End to John O' Groats - and then round Iceland - both in 2011. Seen a moonbow in Herefordshire at night (a white rainbow caused by moonlight). Sung solo in two cathedrals (Durham and Bradford), two churches and the Harrogate International Centre, and with choirs in ten others including York Minster and the Royal Albert Hall.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm an experienced cycletourist with practical knowledge of many things bike and travel - building and servicing bikes, riding safely and routeplanning, tour planning, kit selection, mapreading.. also I have firsthand experience of travel throughout the UK, with Scotland being a particular area of interest. I've also explored counties Cork and Kerry in southwest Ireland, have explored much of Iceland (I cycled right round it so there are few places I've not been), and have just done the same in the Faroes.
I'm also an experienced choral and solo singer, having sung in choirs for 30 years (I'm currently 38) and solo for much of that time as well, and am a minor authority on many types of music! I've also got a love of Celtic Art (I do a bit of my own) and the viking and celtic history, prehistory and archaeology of most northwestern European countries.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good humour, entertainment, experiences of the places I have travelled, and maybe (when pressed) a song or two..? And of course my inescapable charm, grace and elegance ;-)
