About Me

I grew up on an island in the San Francisco Bay. It is not Alcatraz.

I'm a journalist. Recently, I reviewed restaurants for an alternative newspaper in California. It was lots of fun and I still kind of can't believe I got to do that at all. I'm interested in exploring the intersections of food, the arts, culture and technology. In college, I took a class all about cyborgism.

I just moved to Cambodia! Let's be friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have met so many amazing people and done so many things that I would have never ever done had I opted for a hostel.

Interests

Foooooooooood, film, journalism, media theory, travel (obviously) and not using oxford commas.

Seriously though, food is a very important cultural experience to me. I don't understand people who "just eat for fuel."

Music, Movies, and Books

Lots and lots. Samples:

Woody Allen, Lost in Translation, Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight, other movies about traveling, David Lynch, Jean-Luc Godard and probably your standard indie drama-dy.

I've been told by pretentious people that I don't have awful taste. I'll dance like a crazy person in any room if they're bumpin' electro-swing.

Anthony Bourdain, Margaret Atwood, Revolutionary Road, Lemony Snicket, Waiting for Godot, David Sedaris and too many cookbooks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Attending the Locarno International Film Festival several years ago was pretty epic. Watching the mega-erotic poem "LA Zombie," and watching so many walk OUT of "LA Zombie," was odd and laugh-worthy. Also spent two weeks feeding goats and chasing rabbits on a farm, working for a toothless British woman. It was also odd and laugh-worthy.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, French Polynesia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Laos, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Monaco, Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, Vatican City State

Countries I’ve Lived In

Belgium, Cambodia, United States
