About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Tim Ferriss-ing my post-grad life

ABOUT ME

I'm a freelance web designer / app designer/ frontend developer. I travel a decent amount - my biggest trip so far as been a 4 month backpacking sojourn through Southeast Asia. I'm also about to go to Burning Man for my 3rd year in a row.

I'm most excited by delicious food. I kept up a food blog in college (along with some professional food writing/review work), and now I just photograph every dish I eat. I will love you forever if you introduce me to the best things to eat in your city. Seriously! I love street stalls most of all.

I like trying bizarre things. I've eaten everything from cow brains to bull penis. My one and only food taboo is insects. I'm not sure why. They really freak me out. But any fleshy item without an exoskeleton is fine by me.

I've worked as a news reporter, lifestyle journalist, food critic, and web designer. With traveling, I'm beginning to realize that my career isn't my identity. But it's important for me to be creative and autonomous - so my current gig of freelancing works out great. I'm very lucky.

One of my favorite travel activities, along with eating, is people watching. I find it enlightening and hilarious to sneak into traditionally male enclaves (like hostess bars! as I did one time with a big group of guys) and see what happens behind the scenes. Since I'll never know what it's like to actually be a guy and all.

A few last things: If I see a kitten, I HAVE TO pick it up. And I make silly faces at little kids when their parents' backs are turned.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm currently digging "On the Shortness of Life" by Seneca. There are some many beautiful passages that seem even more true today as they did thousands of years ago.

Interests

Cooking, eating out, photography, reading books on philosophy/technology/gender, discovering life and tech hacks, crafting (I can knit/crochet/sew/weave/etc.)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love my college roommate's grindhouse films - Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! comes to mind.

When I get into work mode, I put on my sound-canceling headphones and play Tiesto's house music podcast or R/D's remix of Glitch Mob's Starve the Ego, Feed the Soul. (Really specific, I know.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Burning Man was a week of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The most alien, spectacular sunsets in the desert. Beautiful sculptures and artworks. Party buses with open bars shaped like sharks and octopi shooting 20 foot flames in the air. And beautiful, incredible people, just giving everything away.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can answer most questions about websites, web design, simple programming, online marketing, and the like.

When I was a teenager, I wrote a lot of Harry Potter fanfiction. So I can answer questions about that, too. (I kid. Sort of.)
