About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get through life doing what I can and loving as much of it as possible...currently trying to get my portfolio together so I can apply myself to the illustration/concept art career.

ABOUT ME

I'm just a girl from the suburbs of DFW. I graduated from University in 2010 and taught art at an elementary school for five years. I resigned in June of 2015 to pursue my dream of illustration and moved to Colorado for a year to work on my portfolio, hence why I am no longer verified by address. I am pretty laid back and am equally up for simply hanging out and watching movies or doing something new and exciting.

I love learning new things and spend a lot of my free time outside, making art, and reading. I bike to the park and the library a lot and am currently saving up for a road bike since all I've got is a crummy old garage sale mountain bike that can't shift out of 6th gear.

More about me? Hmm, lets see. Its kind of hard to know what to put. I've always wanted to go skydiving and repelling...also spelunking would be incredible, I always liked the idea of that. Am pretty sure I'll hike the Appalachian Trail, or at least part of it, at some point in my life.

In the summer of 2013 I backpacked across Europe with one of my best friends for 5 weeks and we hit 12 countries. It was crazy and awesome and I would love to do it again someday. Hostel travel is seriously the way to go when you can't couch surf, I've found out. My favorite places were Switzerland and Finland because we got to spend a lot of time outdoors, though going to see the Rein Poortvliet museum and biking around the Netherlands was pretty awesome too. Biking in Europe in general is about a million times cooler and more accessible than biking in the US, apparently.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is an adventure! Your adventure will be what you make it, so start writing the good parts already.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really just want to get out there and meet new people/experience new places. I haven't traveled much and have always used the excuse that I don't have the money...well, CS has taken that excuse right out from under me!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Took my first surfing trip to Colorado over Labor Day weekend two years ago, it was great! Was scouting out the state for cool places to live and I figured, "What better way to get to know a totally new place than to hear about it from the mouths of people who live there?" One of the greatest things about CS, I think. The intimate, insider's look at a place. Hope to surf again soon!

Interests

Drawing, Sculpting, Reading, Biking, Hiking, Camping, Fishing, Gaming, Piano (newbie), Zoology, Astronomy, Paleontology, etc...

...I love pretty much anything that involves me learning something new, actually.

Music, Movies, and Books

That's like picking a favorite flavor of ice cream. Totally impossible.

I am currently listening to a lot of Daughter, Bastille, CVRCHES...toss a little Pogo and Beethoven in there as well. And some Sonata Arctica. And 80s/90s music in general. And plenty of electronic music. And acapella...okay, so pretty much you name the genre and there's a group I like.

Currently reading The Screwtape Letters and various books about dinosaurs. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is a great read that I recommend to everyone.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I helped put on a sports camp for school kids in Rwanda in December '10 with a local NGO called Africa Transformation Network(ATN)...it was an incredible and very humbling experience. I went back there the following year to help out again with ATN and I must say I think I am falling desperately in love with that country.

Spent most of July and part of August of 2012 in Colorado trying to cram in all of my adventure at the end of the summer just before the school year started. It was an incredible time full of backpacking, off-roading, jumping into clear mountain streams, and bonding with friends. I climbed three 14ers in 5 days and then went back with my Mom and did another a week later just for kicks. I fell in love! The mountains are amazing, I could climb every day and never get bored! :D I kept going back every summer and finally figured that I should just move here to save on gas money...so I did!
