About Me

**I am unable to host at the moment, but looking forward to doing so again in the future. Until then, I am happy to get a cup of coffee, or take you out for a drink!

CURRENT MISSION

to travel, meet new people, and continue to learn & grow.

ABOUT ME

"Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life." Jack Kerouac, On the Road

I'm a fun-loving, easygoing girl, I take life as it comes. I've always been a bit of a nomad, I'm passionate about travelling as often as possible and experiencing everything I can along the way. I spent as much time as I can exploring and adventuring in my home state. I grew up in a little city in Southern New Mexico, and always dreamed of getting out. I spent about two years after I graduated from high school in Southern California and then Arizona. Both moves were a great learning experience for me, and I have grown into the person that I am today because of the experiences that I had while I was travelling.

I relocated back to my hometown of Las Cruces, NM, in order to finish my degree and spend some more time with my family. I just graduated with my Bachelor's in Psychology in May and will be pursuing graduate education after a yearlong break. I am passionate about criminal justice reform and would specifically like to pursue research for the Innocence movement.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that I can make a difference through research and education. I am interested in different social issues and would like to impact the lives of as many individuals as possible (and, in turn, be impacted by the lives of others). I hope to leave the world better than I found it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am looking forward to being able to host again, but my life is particularly hectic at the moment due to the recent adoption of a puppy. I have met incredible people through hosting and remain friends with many of them. In the meantime, I hope to meet people in the couchsurfing community as I travel and in my home state/city.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have some experience couchsurfing; I've surfed three times and enjoyed several guests at my home as well. I enjoy talking to new people about their experiences in different areas of the country as well as the world. I think this is the perfect opportunity to learn from people who have experienced different things and places. I also think couchsurfing is an incredible way to travel and experience a city like a local. :)

Interests

My dog, mostly. Art in all forms. Music (live music especially), drawing, ceramics, writing, spraypaint... I love crafts, and anything handmade. I love the outdoors, hiking, camping, adventuring around with my dog, going to shows, drinking coffee, underground hip hop, pop culture, hanging out in used bookstores, thrifting. I love good drinks and good conversation.

I am very interested in criminal justice reform in the US; particularly mass incarceration and the war on drugs, the prevalence of actual innocence, the death penalty, race and class inequity, immigration, and many others. I am a self-proclaimed CJ nerd and will spend most of my free time reading articles and books about the above subjects. Recently, I've been obsessing over the Supreme Court and how and why they make the decisions they make.

Music, Movies, and Books

Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Reality Bites, Wristcutters, 500 Days of Summer. I try not to watch a lot of TV, but have a few guilty pleasures. Mostly comedy.

Music - I love underground hip hop and R&B. I also love indie/folk, Conor Oberst is my favorite musician of all time (Bright Eyes). I love Bob Dylan, Beach House, Portugal the Man, Bon Iver, Death Cab, Devendra Banhart, M. Ward, Broadcast, and the local oldie radio station.

My favorite book is Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I love novels and poetry but mostly read for school and a lot of nonfiction related to psychology & law (my major). Currently reading: Green is the New Red by Will Potter.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got lost in the rainforest of Costa Rica and found the famous Ficus that you can climb into. It was surreal and so beautiful.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy talking to people about the Innocence movement and the need for reform in our criminal justice system. I also have a few practical skills; I love technical writing and essays are my favorite part of college. I will peer review your essays for fun! Haha. I also know how to sew and am currently learning to play the ukulele.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love talking with others and learning about their lives. I also love to share my love for my home state, New Mexico, with others! Many people that live in places I've visited in the US have no idea what an enchanting place NM can be.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, Spain, United States
