I will be tent-camping in Everglades National Park, Ocala National Forest, Osceola National Forest, and the The Gulf Islands National Seashore this winter, (all in Florida). I would love to have surfers while camping ~ I can provide a private tent, air mattress, and bedding. Come kayak with me, and swim in the ocean and the many gorgeous springs. Hang out with the gators, crocs, and amazing birds. A good winter break for all you northerners! Email me, and I will let you know where I'm camping at the time.

Current mission...hmmm...living consciously and joyfully in the moment, laughing, connecting with people and places, being "at home" and grounded in any place or circumstance.

ABOUT ME

About me. An interesting (and telling) anecdote is this. During an inservice in a large VT school district, all teachers took the Myers-Briggs personality test. Afterwords, we were grouped by our profile, in order to do some exercises with others who "tick" in similar ways. Each group was called by "profile" and left the auditorium to reconvene as a group. At the end, when my "group" was called, I was the only person in close to 300 employees with my particular profile. I can't remember what they did with me, but as the PE teacher left in her group, she laughed as I stood by myself, and said, "We always knew this about you, Lynn~ one of a kind." It was both humiliating and illuminating. (I'm an ENFP...Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving...apparently, not too many people with this particular profile choose public education as their career).

First, for you native Spanish speakers ~ do forgive my Spanish. I'm somewhat of a beginner, but you'll get the idea.

Acerca de mi. Un interesante (y contando) anécdota es la siguiente. Durante una en servicio en un gran distrito escolar VT, todos los maestros tomaron el test de personalidad Myers-Briggs. Epílogos, que se agruparon por nuestro perfil, con el fin de hacer algunos ejercicios con otros que "marca" de forma similar. Cada grupo fue llamado por el "perfil" y abandonó el auditorio para reunirse como grupo. Al final, cuando mi "grupo" se llamaba, era la única persona en cerca de 300 empleados con mi perfil en particular. No puedo recordar lo que hicieron conmigo, pero como el maestro de educación física a la izquierda de su grupo, se echó a reír mientras me encontraba sola, y le dijo: "Siempre supimos que esta sobre ti, Lynn ~ única en tu clase." Es a la vez humillante y esclarecedor. (Yo soy un ENFP ... extrovertido, intuitivo, sentir, percibir ... al parecer, no muchas personas con este perfil en particular elegir la educación pública como su carrera.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Over the years, so many many people have invited me into their homes and hearts; I'm so pleased about being able to host travelers. I've had 2 couch requests the first week, and am excited about meeting these new people. When I go south this winter, I'll look for some hospitable couches and new friends. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As an "official" couchsurfer, I'm a newbie, but I have slept on a lot of couches, in some quite elegant guest rooms, in my hammock in peoples' gardens in Mexico, in train aisles, tents, my car, a church closet in Mexico, a storeroom (with a complimentary armed guard) at an Iran/Afghan border outpost, in my hammock high in a tree at the Mexican/US border, airplanes & terminal floors..but I have yet to sleep on a park bench. I'm saving that for extreme old age.

Como un "oficial" CouchSurfer, soy una novata, pero he dormido en un montón de sofás, en algunas habitaciones muy elegante, en mi hamaca en los jardines de los pueblos indígenas en México, en los pasillos del tren, tiendas de campaña, mi coche, un armario de la iglesia en México, un almacén (con una guardia armada de cortesía) en un puesto de frontera de Irán / Afganistán, en mi hamaca en un árbol en la frontera de México / Estados Unidos, aviones y pisos de la terminal .. pero todavía tengo que dormir en un banco del parque. Estoy ahorrando para que la vejez extrema.

Oh where to start...Palestrina's "Missa Breva", "It's Wonderful" Ella Fitzgerald, Mozart's Requiem, most anything by Ibrahim Ferrer, Benny Goodman "Memories of You", Nora Jones esp. "American Anthem", her theme song for the World War II series by Ken Burns, early tango music, "The Lion in Winter" Peter O'Toole & Katherine Hepburn (the ultimate dysfunctional family), "The Station Agent", "Groundhog Day", most films by the Cohen Brothers, Documentaries & Mocumentaries of all stripes, (love "Best in Show"), can never resist "The Sound of Music" & "The Wizard of Oz", I'm now reading "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle", recommended & loaned to me by a friend, just finished "Bel Canto", another friend's gift, and have a pile of books from a yard sale where a very savvy & literate woman was sharing her impressive library for a buck a book. I love memoirs and historical novels...any good fiction.Ah por dónde empezar ... Algo increíble que he hecho

I was in the middle of a knife fight in eastern Iran. We were on a train heading to the Afghan border. We were riding the rails...no seat or cabin. I slept on the aisle floor with my sleeping bag pulled over my head. People walked over me, but I was oblivious. In the middle of the 2nd night the train cars were loaded onto a ferry that took us across a huge lake. When the cars reconnected to another engine at the other side, there was a struggle to find seats and cabins. I was hoisted by my friends up onto the rails, and pulled up by a big man who assaulted me with a vise grip and smashed his face into mine...I bit him so hard that I could hear and feel the crunch of his lip~ he let go of me. There was a scramble in the dark, and someone shouted out "knife!" Our American friend had a glass bottle with water...he calmly stuck his arm out the window to empty the bottle, and smashed the bottom end on the outside of the train to make a jagged weapon with the neck as a handle. (Now there's a seasoned traveler). There was a scramble, and shoving and shouting, and we found ourselves pushed by the crowd into a cabin with seats. We quickly slammed the door shut and locked it. No blood in our little party. I've always attributed my great good fortune (during this 3000 mile jaunt into central Asia) to my Lutheran grandmother's good standing with God.

Yo estaba en medio de una pelea a cuchillo en el este de Irán. Estábamos en un tren que se dirigía a la frontera con Afganistán. Íbamos los rieles ... sin asiento o cabina. Yo dormía en el suelo del pasillo con mi saco de dormir tirado sobre mi cabeza. La gente caminaba por encima de mí, pero yo no era consciente. En medio de la 2 ª noche de los vagones se cargaron en un ferry que nos llevó a un enorme lago. Cuando los coches vuelve a conectar a otro motor en el otro lado, hubo una lucha para encontrar asientos y cabinas. Me fue izada por mis amigos hasta en los rieles, y se detuvo por un hombre grande que me asaltado con un apretón y se estrelló su rostro al mío ... yo le mordió tan fuerte que me podía oír y sentir el crujido de su labio ~ se me soltó. Hubo una lucha en la oscuridad, y alguien gritó "cuchillo!" Nuestro amigo americano había una botella de vidrio con agua ... con calma sacó el brazo por la ventana para vaciar la botella, y se estrelló el extremo inferior en la parte exterior del tren para hacer un arma dentada con el cuello como un mango. (Ahora hay un viajero experimentado). Hubo una pelea y empujones y gritos, y nos encontramos empujados por la multitud en una cabina con asientos. Rápidamente nos cerró la puerta con llave. No hay sangre en nuestro pequeño grupo. Siempre he atribuido mi gran fortuna (en este paseo 3.000 millas hasta el centro de Asia) a la buena situación de mi abuela luterana con Dios.
