About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Spent the last 18 month as a carer, looking after my elderly mum and setting her up in a better situation as she gets older. This has been the hardest thing I've ever done - mentally, emotionally and physically draining.

So now, after 18 month doing this, I am stepping back from that and looking to reconnect with my own life journey, reconnecting with my interests, passions and finding the path to my life's next adventure. What better way to do this than travel?

So I am getting back on the road and exploring the world once again - first Japan for a week (I know, it's not enough), the Europe for 8 weeks (still not enough) and finally Ecuador before I return to Australia refreshed.

PHILOSOPHY

Personal philosophies?

I am not one for dogma or simplistic ideologies. I believe the world is complex and over simplistic dogma just doesn't get anyone anywhere.

I do however have many ideals, I aim to contribute to a sustainable, socially just and communitarian world.

I am an anarchist at heart, I believe that everyone should take an active role in shaping society, everyone should take personal responsibility for their actions and participate towards being a part of the solution to our society's current problems.

I despise hierarchies and domination in all its forms: autocratic, racist, sexist or homophobic... and prefer working towards empowering the people (both socially marginal groups and those who have abandoned politics) and build community based decision-making.

I love the ideal of direct democracy, but I am currently more concerned about acting on climate change, fast... our time is limited and the challenges posed are great.

I am an idealist, but I am not dogmatic... I act on the world as it stands in front of me and work towards a long-term ideal whilst acknowledging that the status quo is our starting point and we must start from there.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't done that much couchsurfing in my life (once when I first moved to Melbourne and another time when I rode through Iran). The experiences I enjoyed the most were when I was immersed in a group of like minded people, people who were socially/environmentally progressive and wanted to share their experiences of their home town, its food and culture/subculture).

Interests

- Politics (political theory and the practical implementation of social justice and environmental sustainability).
- History and Culture
- Martial arts (incl. Yoga)
- Cycling in all its forms (cyclocross, track, MTB, Touring and Road)... I am always happy on a bike
- Rock climbing, camping, outdoor stuff
