About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Going to school and studying Urban Planning while dabbling in social enterprise startups and traveling.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in the suburbia of Phoenix, AZ. At the age of seventeen I joined the Marine Corp which gave me my first real taste of travel across the country. In 2003 I deployed to Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom and crossed the border into Iraq the first day of the war. Afterward I questioned the reasons for us being there and that led me on a journey of exploration into the world and myself that changed my life forever.

I opened a Hookah lounge with my best friend and then sold it a year later, along with everything that I owned, and set off to travel the world. I discovered couchsurfing, and traveled for a year around the US, Canada, Mexico, and New Zealand.

Along those travels I discovered another community of people much like couchsurfing who completely stood for the same things I had come to stand for. Burners is the name that this group calls themselves, and they journey home each year to Black Rock City in the desert of Nevada for their annual gathering, Burning Man.

The couchsurfing, and Burning Man communities have become my new family and I find that I have an instant connection with people I meet from either.

I now live in Montreal, and I'm going to school to learn Urban Planning so that one day I can help make cities and communities worldwide more sustainable.

PHILOSOPHY

In the words of T.S. Elliot "We must not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we began and to know the place for the first time."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I took part in the Couch Surfing Collectives in Montreal, and New Zealand, and also helped the CS Bascamp out for a couple of weeks. Most don't remember but i was also one of the two guys who did "The War On Them" internet show for Couch Surfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed all across the US, Canada, Mexico, and New Zealand. Never once had a bad experience and I have a few friends whom I met through the site that I know will be my friends for life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books first because they are the most important. Karouac is any travelers best friend. Loved "On the Road", and "Dharma Bums". "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien is my all time favorite book.

When it comes to music, pretty much anything although right now I am pretty addicted to electronic music.

Favorite movie is "True Romance" (written by Tarantino so its not your everyday love story), and "Into The Wild" reminded me of... well, Me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fought in the war in Iraq, watched the sunset at farewell spit in New Zealand, pet a wild penguin, swam with wild dolphins in Kaikoura, and so much more, just ask.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, France, Iraq, Kuwait, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Korea, Thailand
