About Me

CURRENT MISSION

youthful dissipation.

ABOUT ME

Quirky, polite, occasionally adventurous and easily amused. Free. Clever when required. Spontaneous. I like to be amazed, delighted, surprised and ultimately content if not happy.

PHILOSOPHY

We're all on a giant spaceship and we're just starting to realize that the pilot disappeared a long, long time ago.

Also I hope to create situations for myself and anyone else in which life cannot cease to be an unending stream of pleasant surprises.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to participate mostly at the local level--helping out with and attending events as often as my schedule allows. I host occasionally and surf not nearly enough.

US (surfed in Baltimore and San Francisco)
Canada - Vancouver with Amy Weeks and Toronto w/ the War Resisters Campaign
Ireland - Dublin w/Rory and Galway w/Eugene
France - Julien Mazeas! Ended up paying rent at this one :)
India - Blake, Esben & Udaya..I'll see all of you again, I can't wait!
Singapore - Nicolas (2007) and Kuni (2010)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: lots and everything, I live for music.

Books? Linguistics, politics, photography, french lit, american lit, well lit history.. Lately I've read jPod by Douglas Coupland, parts of the Internationale Situationniste 10-year anthology, Murakami's Dance Dance Dance, and have just started reading Shantaram by Gregory D. Roberts.

Movies? Pretty much anything, no matter how stupid (they're usually the best) or involved. The worst ones are formulaic non-comedies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one? Riiight. Here's a few:
-Explored abandoned buildings in Detroit
-Attended a toga party in Mumbai
-Snuck past security in the Paris UN complex for cheap coffee
-Survived "super typhoon" Sepat in a rooftop Taipei shack
-At 16, I went to Montreal for 2 weeks just to be with a girl
-At 19, I joined the US Army for a few years (Medical), then left for greater adventures
-At 20, I skipped school and flew to Paris for a weekend to be with a different girl
-Helped save a little baby from fungal (candida) sepsis in a small Ecuadorean village while on a humanitarian/medical mission
-Tons of other things, mostly brought about by: 1) chasing photographs, 2) being crazy & in love, or 3) a constant search for something new and amazing. Also 4) pure chance and being open to meeting complete strangers to hang out has put me in the most unlikely of situations leading to the most amazing experiences, almost always good. Comfort zones are generally unhealthy.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach auto mechanics, French, a couple decent recipes maybe, and pretty much anything about prescription drugs/pharmacy.

Teach me the sound of one hand catching a tree falling in the forest.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, Ukraine, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Taiwan, United States
