About Me

I'm a history graduate student, food lover, avid reader, and occasional writer living in New Haven, CT. I love traveling and I've been to a few couchsurfing meetups but I haven't used couchsurfing that much in my travels. I'd like to change that!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of the best parts of traveling is meeting new people and learning about different cultures first-hand. There's nothing like learning about a new place from somebody who calls it their hometown. During my travels, I've met some truly fantastic people who have shared their stories, their homes, their customs, and their food with me, and I'm really grateful to them!

I also believe that cross-cultural experiences and friendships can be a force for positive change on a global scale. Meeting people from different backgrounds is a great way to open your mind to different ideologies and worldviews. A more connected, curious, and empathetic world is a more peaceful world :)

Interests

I love cooking, trying foods & drinks from all over the world, crocheting, crafting, practicing my Spanish, writing in my journal, and meeting new people.

When i'm traveling I love taking long walks and exploring cities. Also, if a city has any sort of hill, fortress, tower, or other high-up lookout point, I'll climb it! Food is one of my favorite parts of traveling and I can spend hours wandering through a good market. I'm also a sucker for street fairs, block parties, live music, flea markets, and second-hand shops. When I get tired of walking and sightseeing, you'll find me at a café drinking coffee and writing postcards.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I like a lot of classic rock and indie rock--The Beatles, The Who, The Black Keys, Good Old War, Guster, Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Florence + the Machine, the Postal Service, Darlingside. I also love listening to choral music or anything with beautiful harmonies. My not-so-secret guilty pleasures are cheesy radio pop, 90's throwback music and reggaeton :D

Books - Some of my favorite novels are The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, The House of the Spirits, Americanah, Half of a Yellow Sun, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 100 Years of Solitude, Slaughterhouse-Five, and Harry Potter. I'll also read anything and everything by Junot Díaz or Zadie Smith.

Movies - I'm not much of a movie buff but I'll watch just about anything. Some of my favorite movies are The Shawshank Redemption, Annie Hall, In Bruges, Up, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
