About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Impossible: to satiate my wanderlust

ABOUT ME

This profile's a bit stale and hasn't been updated in forever. I'll refresh it soon, but in the meantime...

A description of myself? Hmmm...

The quick and short version: my name's Mike. I'm 24 and (after a few bumps along the way) finally wrapping up my BA in political science. And no, that doesn't mean I want to run for office. Dear god, I don't want to run for office...

Back on topic. I like good food, good drinks, good movies, books, and music, and good people to share them all with. I have a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, and I love a good argument, but all in good fun.

And while I've done far, far too little of it, I love to travel. New sights, new sounds, new foods, new cultures, new people.

PHILOSOPHY

I could right an essay, but there's one Kurt Vonnegut quote that sticks out in my mind: "Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies—God damn it, you've got to be kind."

Music, Movies, and Books

I could go on for ages, but off the top of my head some of my favorites are...Movies: Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia, Citizen Kane, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Godfather, Goodfellas, The Departed, Snatch, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Layer Cake, James Bond (all of them... mostly), 2001: A Space Odyssey, Sunshine, AI: Artificial Intelligence, Wall-E, Up, Toy Story (1, 2 & 3), In Bruges, Burn After Reading, Fargo, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Inglorious Basterds, No Country for Old Men, Letters from Iwo Jima, Saving Private RyanMusic: Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The White Stripes, David Bowie, U2, Coldplay, OutKast, Beastie Boys, Gorillaz, Blur, Amon Tobin, Justice, The Chemical Brothers, Nujabes, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Michael JacksonBooks: The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. For me, nothing else holds a candle to it.I'm pretty big on anything by Dostoyevsky, for that matter. And I have a thing for the black humor of Kurt Vonnegut, too. One other book does stand out in my mind though: Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman. Love that book...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Laying underneath the stars on a clear night. So simple, but it never ceases to amaze me.

New Year's in Amsterdam is pretty awesome, too.
