About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finding my feet in Glasgow, making new friends, getting out and about into the countryside, visiting favourite places and finding new ones.

ABOUT ME

I talk quite a lot, and listen a lot. Mainly I tell stories, or ask questions to find stories out. I rather like explanations. I write, and will do that for a living as soon as possible. I'm openly lesbian, and in my head this puts me in a minority, so I work really hard on not having a problem with anyone on the grounds of their race, sex, age, sexuality, etc. I reserve the right to have a problem with someone if they are an arse, however. I'm not 100% comfortable with children, because I worry that they break easily and it might somehow be my fault. I drink alcohol (I am Scottish, after all) but am up for not doing so if necessary, and it's my only drug. Unless you count chocolate. I'm vegetarian but not trying to convert anyone. Um. I don't spent 40 minutes in front of the mirror before going out, but don't mind if others do. I'm really interested in eco-building, at the moment, and up for green-y community and things. Also walking. Lots of walking.

PHILOSOPHY

I could write a lot for this. Extremely short version: I think we are here to understand and appreciate and improve things, mainly (or at least initially) ourselves. I try to avoid judging people, including myself. Lets just say that's a work in progress...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently couch-less, so looking to find friends to hang out with and participate in other ways.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Almost a complete Couchsurfing noob: although I have met and made friends through Couchsurfing.com, I haven't actually surfed yet...

Interests

Oh, lots of stuff. Right now I want to hang out with creative people, feel myself putting roots down in a place, save up for a paragliding chute and lessons, be outside A LOT, try new things. Surprise me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I'm the sensitive type (got nightmares for more than a fortnight from I am Legend), so haven't seen many films and they're not a big thing for me. Not much that's more than 15 rated that I want to watch.
Music: Pretty mild, really, probably rock is the easiest word. I like dancing, but haven't gotten into anything hard-core in that direction.
Books: Now you're talking. I'm desperate to re-read Thoreau and Hesse, up for everything from fiction through self-help and pretty much anything that's not a thriller, horror, or murder mystery. At the moment I'm reading a lot of non-fiction. I read fast and will give anything a shot that's not going to fill my brain with disturbing images. Not a monster fan of chick-lit, as I'm not really the target market. But I like clever and funny, regardless of genre.
TV: Don't have one, don't miss it, have no idea or interest in what's happening in the soap operas.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walked 1000km on my own across a country whose language I did not speak. I am a bit impulsive. It seemed like a good idea at the time. And it totally was.

Teach, Learn, Share

Simple veggie cooking.
Basic carpentry/woodwork.
Probably a bit more than basic DIY.
I like fixing stuff.
I know random stuff. Ask me questions, I like it. I like it even if I don't know the answer. I like it when you know the answer, and I can learn from you. It's all good.
Want to learn: more veggie cooking, new skills of general handiwork, basics of car mechanics, practice and hone the skills I've got, how to fly a paraglider (or hanglider. Or microlite. Basically, I want to fly). My indoor climbing skills are basic but I can belay and I'm up for learning a bit more. Yoga (I know maybe 4 postures).
