ABOUT ME

I am writing a history of keyhole surgery at the University of Cambridge.
I get paid for writing and travelling: great.

Keyhole surgery is minimally invasive surgery that uses two small cuts in the belly to operate from outside the body. This technique started in the 1950s and I describe how doctors developed it by designing new instruments. I am not a doctor, but a historian. I love what I am doing because I am very interested in medical images (photographs and x-rays of the body) and I get to do a lot of interviews with former physicians which is very fun and entertaining. I also film surgical gestures in the operating room.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live. I am quite tolerant towards other people’s spleens as long as they don’t infringe my own rights. I am very curious and I am interested in nearly everything.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am mainly hosted since I travel a lot. I have been hosted in Paris, Strasbourg, Lisbon, London and Berlin. I hosted people from Singapour, France, Quebec, Switzerland, Norway and Israel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I got to know Couchsurfing in Winter 2006 when I was at the Berlin Filmfestival ‘Berlinale’ and met a young American guy in the A&O Hostel Zoo who told me that he had travelled entire Europe by using Couchsurfing and did not spend more than 300 bucks. I was amazed and have been a member with Couchsurfing since 2006.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Working as a set design assistant for several movies shot in Berlin in summer 2005 – one of them was shown at the Berlin Film Festival afterwards!
Living in Paris for two years: amazing food, architecture, parks and libraries. And a beautiful language. Now I’m in Britain and miss the quality of food and the mild weather, but not the arrogance of the Parisians.
