ABOUT ME

I get restless easily and am always skipping from one fascination to another; I love travel, if only sometimes for the thrill of being in motion. I like to live free and easy, but am inwardly extremely organized.
Lately I've found myself in a minimalistic thrall, ridding myself of my possessions, habits, responsibilities and so on that really don't matter, and I've been doing better without all that extra junk in my life.
For fun I like to explore (hiking is my heroin), play and record music, go out to a pub or show (although it's been too long since I last heard live music) or otherwise get involved in mad, interesting nonsense. I also read and make art and that kind of thing, but those are less social.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that fundamentally the only thing that makes life worthwhile is beauty, and that the most ethical, happy and healthy life can be lived by cultivating one's aesthetic sensitivity and striving towards the ideal of perfect beauty.
Otherwise, most everything is wonderful nonsense.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I've only surfed, in a number of places across Canada, but would like to be able to host when I'm set up someplace suitable for that.
For now, though, I've just moved to the Nanaimo area and want to see how I can do meeting new people off this site.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The surfing I've done was on my last hitchhiking trip, from Ottawa to Victoria. I met a bunch of fine folks whose generosity astounded me, and I'd like to spread it around.

What floats my boat: exploring - preferably the countryside but city's alright - playing music, philosophy, art, campfires until late.

I love big changes in the weather.

Musically my tastes are all over the map. I really like the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Rufus Wainwright, the Talking Heads, Nick Cave, St Vincent, Bjork, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Solo Andata, Japan, King Crimson... and many more.

I just climbed my first mountain the other day after moving out to the West Coast. That was pretty wonderful, although there have been too many stellar moments to isolate any one.
