About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meeting people, making friends, and learning about others...one meal at a time.

ABOUT ME

We were both born and raised in New York. We became friends in high school and remained pen pals for a few years before we set off on our own paths. Drew took a break from art and shotokan and headed to Philadelphia to learn psychology and train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I went to school for Anthropology, moved back to New York, and worked at the Museum of Natural History. Eventually our paths crossed, our young romance was rekindled, and we decided to head west. Moving to San Diego allowed us to pursue our interests, live together and gain a new perspective. Today, we find ourselves in Philadelphia, a bit closer to friends and family...and meeting new people all the time. In our down time, we cook and enjoy the company of friends. Conversations vary from film, chess, martial arts, and culture. We look forward to meeting you, exchanging ideas, and as always, sharing a meal.

PHILOSOPHY

The first step of any major project or goal can be the most daunting. But that is the exciting part...we may not always know what the outcome will be, but it is so important to lend yourself to a new experience.

We believe that anything worth doing requires work and has its challenges.

Be in the moment and enjoy life's little pleasures..like a perfectly ripe fruit, jiu jitsu practice, or a cup of coffee in the park.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Get to know why Philly is truly the first city of America. Let's show you some of that Brotherly Love...or at least send you in the best direction to sate your curiosity.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Before CS, I had the luck and opportunity to experience the kindness and generosity of the Kiwis. They are truly living the spirit of CS. I hope to experience and share the company of fellow travelers. And hopefully extend the same generosity of home and spirit as the Kiwis!

Interests

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, cooking, comics, movies, going to the museum and riding bikes.

We love taking naps and catching up on much needed rest when we are home. Biking is our favorite mode of transportation and we tend to bike year round. However, when we are away..we love to walk around and explore, experience and consume everything in our path. Haha, well, take in the local culture. You can almost always count on us to be on our bicycles to grab a bite or procure tasty treats. I ride my bike often to grocery shop and find a variety of beautiful ingredients..always contemplating the next meal.

Drew trains and teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu all week. He reads about zombies and plays chess...comic books are our guilty pleasure.

Not having cable tv has given us lots of time to cook, read and write. Battlestar Galactica and No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain on Netflix are good distractions. Lately, we have been going out for boba teas and playing jenga into the wee hours.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swimming and camping out on a small island (Culebra, aka Snake Island). Falling asleep to the the sounds of gently lapping waves, under a canopy of stars and palm trees

Eating a knish and pretzel on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan...We love New York

Going to the onsen (baths) in Osaka and enjoying a home cooked meal with our friends-family, really-in their lovely guest house in Ibaraki

Driving from San Francisco to San Diego along the Pacific Coast Highway and watching the sunset over the Pacific ocean and mountains.

Our view of West Philly is magnificent. The sky bursting with colors and illuminating our bedroom in crimson and copper streams of light. And the gothic spirals of an old church adjacent to our home; sentinels on watch, basking in the suns warmth.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can learn languages from one another (Spanish for....). Drew teaches BJJ (jiu jitsu) and can show you a few lifesaving techniques. We enjoy yoga and would be very happy to lead an informal Ashtanga routine with you or for your housemates.

I enjoy a good meal and can prepare food. If you want to jump in, I can teach you how to make a variety of food(s) and share my own recipes.
