You know, I haven't been on this site in a few years (I'm writing this in 2021.) I heard things went a bit sideways as the the user demographic changed, and I personally noticed profiles, responses, and intention alter over time, trending towards people looking for things other than companionship, cultural exchange, and the sharing of hospitality. I happened to log back in after a notification and looked back over the comments I have from those with whom I stayed or spent time, and what I'd written for them in return. My heart feels so full. It makes me miss who I have been, allows me hope for the future to bring something new, reminds me just how spectacular some humans are out there in the big wide world, if you get lucky enough, and are open enough, to meet them.

We all know why we're on here; it's extraordinary. I think it's unlikely we will meet via couchsurfing from here on out, but I sincerely hope we do meet. Through sheer unfathomable good fortune it has brought me to the door of some of the best damn people I believe walk this earth, and I hope it is still just the beginning.

I hitchhiked solo overland from Belgium to South Africa. Then Mexico to Ecuador. Then all around the States. I get about. My thumbs are good guides. It's been a good decade for them.

I threw myself off Victoria Falls bridge attached to a glorified elastic band. Highly recommended.

I joined a street fire circus and became their target body whilst living on a nudist beach in Crimea, Ukraine.

Witnessing the kindness of people, everywhere I've been. It breaks and heals my heart in exactly the same moment.

I have a lot of energy that I don't know what to do with, and I really like mud, so if you need someone to dig a hole or join in harvest or mix cob to build a wall, I'll flipping do it.
