About Me

I am: An advocate for environmental and social justice who is employed by a food (in)security Not-For-Profit to rescue edible food from going to landfill and delivering it to those in need #dreamjob

I will be: Leaving to North America with my values intact, a bicycle, a guitar and a sense of adventure.

My latest journey has been taking vacations from my mind and inhabiting my body through all kinds of movement; not limited to dancing, yoga, acro yoga... and I want to add much more to this list.

I am a multi-instrumentalist with a decade long career as a sound engineer, a lover of contact improvisation (Dance), a meditator, a creator of vegan delights, a cycling enthusiast, an adventurer, a very good listener and much, much more.

The most important thing is that I'm the most delightful house guest... and a modest person!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To share experiences, resources and knowledge with this very special community. As a host I am here to connect with and offer up my hospitality and culture to a diverse, interesting and inspiring range of fellow travellers, adventurers and kindred spirits.

As a surfer I wish to connect with a geographical space and all the culture, insight and knowledge that place has to offer through the locals whom inhabit it. In this interaction I delight in sharing my knowledge, skills and quality time with those who host me.

It's been a wonderful adventure to be part of this amazing community thus far, and the gifts don't stop coming.

Interests

Movement - The last three years has been a journey into my body through dance, acrobatics, yoga and live performance art. Yoga is at the core of my physical, mental and spiritual health these days and a love of Contact Improvisation (Dance) gives me a deep connection and exploration of self through a shared yet personal experience with others. Add acro yoga and a recent live performance piece to the mix and there's a recipe for a healthy, happy human!

Meditation - I practice the Buddhist traditions of Anapanasati (Mindfulness of Breathing) and Metta Bhavana (Developing Loving Kindness) as well as Vippassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin.

Music - Playing guitar, ukulele and singing. Supporting live music.

Cycling, environmental and social justice, exploring, COOKING! delicious vegan food... also eating it! Dumpster diving, being frugal, finding loud woollen sweaters in thrift stores, different languages, different cultures, warm nights, nonviolent communication, appropriate technology. The craft of craft beer, artisinal spirits and good wine, however drinking has become a few and far between affair for me of late. Sailing (I've done a course and want to learn more), the list could go on forever and will continue to expand.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:

I'm the kind of fool who optimistically reads multiple books at the same time. On my bedside table right now is:

Island - Aldous Huxley
Into the wild - John Krakauer
Nonviolent communication - Marshall Rosenberg
Practicing the power of now - Eckhart Tolle
The art of meditation (The Breath and The Heart) - Vessentara

Inspiring reads of the past have been anything by Albert Camus, Richard Bach, Kurt Vonnegut or Eckhart Tolle.

Music:

Well... talk about a question that's simultaneously easy yet hard to answer at the same time. Music has been, is, and will always be a huge part of my life. Although I could try to list all the genres I enjoy I will just say I've been on a bit of a folk lean as I play more nylon string guitar but still love the punk aesthetic and can appreciate getting weird and/or dancy as we push into the electronic realms and beyond.

Artists on rotation at the moment:

Australian/New Zealand (Do yourself a favour and get around these folk):

Good Morning, Aldous Harding, Sampa the Great, Tropical Fuck Storm, Julia Jacklin, Spike Fuck, Deaf Wish, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Mt. Mountain.

Rest of the world:

Homeshake, HVOB, Night Beats, IDLES, Alvvays, Nicola Cruz, Romare, Yellow Days, Cosmo Pyke, Cat Power, Big Thief, Adrianne Lenker, Mount Eerie, Girlpool, Waxahatchee, Psychic Ills, Andrew Bird, Pile, Dr. Dog, SALES, Protomartyr, Girl Band, Mark Kozelek, Floating Points, Trentemøller, Cancer, Parra for Cuva, Khruangbin.

Movies:

...honestly I don't watch too many films, I prefer to be actively engaged with other people or my own creative pursuits. Having said that, when I afford the time for a good film or documentary I do really enjoy it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One?!

I recently built an entire stage for a music festival in Thailand with my High School best friend using bamboo and wire.

Before that I spent a semester at San Diego State University, California; living in a co-op/urban farm, my "Studies" included Surfing, Sailing and environmental science...
