About Me

Ever heard about the small country in northern Europe where everyone happily bikes to work, energy comes from wind turbines and all the guys are damn sexy blond hair and blue eyes?! - Hi, I'm Peter. Being originally from Denmark I can tell you that it's all true! - I was just the only lucky one born with dark hair and brown eyes. Born in the end of the eighties, I now enjoy my early thirties travelling the world. Without hesitation I guarantee to be among the top 10 most funny and talkative Danes you will encounter in your lifetime! I don't live by certain philosophical guidelines. During my years in law school in various countries, I have been taught to apply common sense to legal challenges - and all other aspects of life. I'm trying to live a balanced life between fulfilling my travel ambitions and work dedication in jobs that I actually enjoy - something which in the last couple of years seem to have been possible. I do believe in the best of people and in unfortunate situations I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LONDON In 2012, I studied international law in London together with a majority of American students. This became quite handy the year after when I couchsurfed my way through USA. During my time in the United Kingdom I travelled much of the southern part and visited Stonehenge, Bath in Somerset and the Harry Potter-like Oxford. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I participate both as a couchsurfer and hosts. That being said, I has been challenging for me hosting people as I have been living in six different countries in the last four years. I actively seeking experiences where I'm "forced" to travel a lot and the downside to this is that my future plans are rapidly changing.Whenever I'm Denmark my apartment in Copenhagen is open to couchsurfers. I have quite extensive experience hosting travellers through similar couch sharing systems in student associations I have been member of.

CHINA

From January to September 2014, I lived in Beijing where I had the fortune of working on promoting Danish interests in China. From my base in Beijing I tried to explore as much as possible of the diversity in China’s provinces and the surrounding countries. My travels took me to Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Weihai, Suzhou, Kunming, Shangri-la, Hong Kong and Macau.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couchsurfing experience (through this website) was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where I stayed only one night before moving on to New York. I was met by a very friendly host, who did not only provide me with above hotel conditions but also taught me a great deal about former and present society in the US.Since my first experience I have been continuously astonished by the broad-minded and caring persons I have met around the world through this website.

NEW YORK CITY

One of my first couchsurfing experiences was in New York City. Due to extreme weather forecast my business trip was cancelled. I chose to go anyway and requested a last minute couch. The weather turned out just fine and I enjoy a couch and an open-minded host for three days on Manhattan. I also attended a great multicultural potluck dinner in Brooklyn.

Interests

Ever since I got my first compact camera I have been fascinated by taking pictures. I basically "burned out" my first camera by taking to many pictures.

Over the years my passion for photography has grown - and today the first item I pack when travelling is my camera equipment. It started as a hobby, later became a freelance job of mine (mostly concerts, events and news reporting).

Now I take pictures for my own joy - and because I eventually want to fill my own home with pictures I have taken in the countries I have visited. I'm always interested in sharing photography tips and tricks, go on photo tours or play around with images in Photoshop.

DETROIT

In 2013, life brought me to Motor Town in Michigan, USA. Working for one of the largest law firms in the state, I saw both extreme wealth and poverty in a city, which was on the edge of bankruptcy. Detroit, located in the Midwest on the border to Canada, is the ideal base for travelling the US by car. I couchsurfed my way through all the surrounding states as well as Montreal and Toronto in Canada.

VILNIUS

In 2011, I lived and worked a couple of months in the capitol of Lithuania. Experiencing first-hand the previous Soviet republic was remarkable – especially their immense joy for basketball. In the summer I visited Trakai Island Castle, Kaunas, couchsurfed in beach party town Palanga, Klaipėda on the seaside and jumped in the sand dunes in Nida on the border to Russia.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two of my most amazing experiences were two major road trips through USA. During the first one-month trip in 2007, I made it down the East Coast from NYC to Miami and up the West Coast from LA through Las Vegas to San Francisco.

My second trip sounded quite stupid in the planning phase but turned out extremely well: 12 states in 12 days! Starting in Detroit, Michigan and ending in San Diego, California I made it 6.500 km with train and various rental cars.

On the way I drove among buffaloes in Montana, saw geysers erupt, went to Mormon church in Utah, challenged the speed limits in Idaho, crashed a student party at Berkeley in San Francisco, cruised down Highway 1 in California - and finally had fancy cocktails on the beach in San Diego.

While living in the USA I did extensive road trips in the states around Michigan and in Canada. I'm always open to give suggestions on what to see if you intend to do your own explorations in North America.
