About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To have adventures, meet awesome people and make the world a bit brighter

ABOUT ME

I'm an enthusiastic person who's full of ideas and always up for an adventure. I love meeting people and hanging out with friends, old and new. I care about the world and the environment and try to live in a sustainable way. I believe in creativity, in community, in sharing and in collaborating. My current passion is food - I get excited about local organic food, food I've grown myself, fermented food and foraging.

I also love to write, putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) whenever I can. Musing on the local food movement, dreaming about tiny home life, wandering off into a fictional universe; I love it all.

I love live music, dancing, chatting, cups of tea or glasses of red wine, wandering around with a camera all day, playing scrabble, people watching in cafes, making things, roadtrips, baking bread, walking barefoot, sharing puddings, making origami cranes out of whatever paper is lying around, bacon sandwiches, writing lists, writing, reading on trains, being outdoors, lazy Sundays, cooking big meals, cheese and pineapple sticks, vintage cameras, crosswords, sunny evenings, random acts of kindness...

I believe the best way to see a city is to walk. And walk some more. Keep walking until you're lost and your feet hurt. I also really love swimming outdoors in lakes and rivers. If you show me a river or lake (apart from in the city!), I *will* ask if I can swim in it.

"If you spend your time putting more love into the world, then it is reasonable to believe you are going to benefit from a world with more love in it..."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I spent year travelling across Canada couchsuring and wwoofing, and photographed everyone I stayed with on my journey - see most of the photos here (still need to finish uploading them!)

I'm really excited about Couchsurfing - to me, travelling as all about the people you meet along the way, and I'm now excited to be able to host too :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books - too many to list though. A combination of fiction and non fiction (especially books about the environment). Currently in love with John Steinbeck. If you've read The Golden Gate by Vikram Seth, I like you already.

Films - I love unusual and independent films - memento, donnie darko, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, amelie, adaptation, brick...

Music - I love folk, electro swing, indie rock, ska, balkan stuff - pretty much anything I can dance to... Currently obsessed with The Rural Alberta Advantage and the Head and the Heart.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made 1000 origami cranes a few years ago. This is what I did with 200 of them... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiZCpaBc4mE

In 2013 was also voted one of the 50 people who bring the most happiness to Bristol. This made me very happy.

Teach, Learn, Share

Happy to offer help and advice about photography as I'm a reasonable amateur photographer. Origami crane or t-rex making lessons are a given. Want to learn to make home made bagels? Or make amazing biscuits? Just ask...

I love to learn to cook new things. If you can teach me about fermenting and preserving food I'd be super happy.
