About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Thinking global and acting local: studying global change while sipping red wine.

ABOUT ME

I'm one of the many European scientists, who come to the US to have a look, and then stay a lot longer than planned. I can look like the stereotypical young academic: beard, corduroy jacket and a bit of precociously grey hair. Essentially, I'm doing what I can to avoid becoming Prof. Smith of PhD Comics, minus the glasses (if you have never read PhD comics, you should).
In politics I verge to the left back home in Europe, i.e. I'm a raging pinko here in the States...
I am more open minded than most: I cannot think of many things which could make me blush...

PHILOSOPHY

Dilettantism is underrated: it's a great pleasure to enjoy a wide variety of activities, without aiming at 'being a professional':
- photography
- mountaneering
- cooking
- debating
- exploring

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just joined CouchSurfing - looking forward for a good experience!

Interests

I have a passion for good wine and strong coffee, I'm an amateur photographer, and a passable cook .
I'm a bit of a bibliophile and a cinephile, I like classical music and opera (I know, a cliché being Italian...).
I love mountain sports, skiing and hiking. I grew up near the Alps, so I'm really sorry not to have proper mountains around.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been walking amoung the flames doing fieldwork in the Australian bush, studying the effect of fires on vegetation.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love conversation in foreign languages - if you are studying Italian or English, let's chat!
I am very passionate about art, science and politics, and I could spend the whole night discussing.
I could cook you dinner, showing how to make gnocchi or ravioli from scratch...

Countries I’ve Visited
