About Me

Inquisitive, compassionate, cerebral, silly, and adventurous. I like synthesizing ideas and blurring the figurative boundaries that separates us.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Cause you guys are awesome.

Interests

If I'm not reading, I'm writing. And if I'm not writing, I'm cooking. And if none of the above, I'm out in this grand world cycling, hiking, or dancing the night away at some EDM show. Otherwise, I'm just up to no good 😅.

I am quite fond of SF, and will be happy to share some of my favorite spots. Just ask!

Tell me about a book you've read recently.

I love food. Gluttony is my ticket to hell. So if you like to cook, come into my cramped SF kitchen and let me rave about your meal to all my friends the next day. Or take me out to dine somewhere!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
I really, really like reading books. Generally reading non-fiction, classic literature, sci-fi, and occasional scintillating trash ;).

A few on top of my head: Man's Search for Meaning, Sapiens, Letters from a Stoic, Doing Good Better, Letters to a Young Poet, Insomniac City, Myth of Sisyphus, Crime and Punishment, Brave New World, Nine Stories, How to Change Your Mind, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Sense of Style, Remembrance of Things Past/In Search of Lost Time, Kafka by the Shore, I'm Glad my Mom Died.

Music:
I generally enjoy jazz, EDM, funk, indie pop, hip-hop, but I have a fluid taste in music. DeadMau5 label, Elderbrook, Sofi Tukker, NVOY, Touch Sensitive, Vulfpeck, A Tribe Called Quest, Lorde, Lane 8, Piper, Kanye West, etc.

Media/Cinema:
I love intentional cinema with many layers of abstractions and commentaries. Think David Lynch, Wes Anderson, Akira Kurosawa, Agnes Varda, Hayao Miyazaki, Bong Joon-ho, Martin Scorsese, Wong Kar-wai.

In terms of movie genres that grips me:

Comedy -- the over-the-head witty kind. And also thigh-slapping humor. Pero por que no los dos?

Psych thriller -- as much as I'd like to sleep soundly afterwards, most of the best ones keeps me up thinking all night.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent three days in Malaysia voraciously devouring 21 different Malay dish.

Motorbiked all over Thailand.

Witness the solar eclipse with the rest of Japan (May 21, 2012 in Tokyo at 7:30AM, for my own reference haha).

A daringly stupid ice climb in pitch-dark Iceland - 8 lives left.

Getting drunk in the mountains of Tongariro and Mordor in New Zealand while falling asleep under the stars.

Lived and meditated in a Buddhist monastery in Thailand.

Surfed Cloud 9 waves in Philippines.

Witness the bountiful oddity of SF.

Slept next to a lady monk seal on the Hawaiian beach.

Lived and/or travelled in over 20+ countries
