Обо мне

My name is Opal, and with a rare name like that I really had something to live up to. I've always wanted to do everything. Or at least to try everything. It has left me with an enormous amount of experiences, but not to many good skills. However, it happens that I'm also a forever optimist (which was the name of my first sailboat - which I learned to sail on and then eventually shipwrecked in the Bahamas), and with a belief that the universe is conspiring in my favour, I tend to make do with the skills I have and make the best out of any opportunity.
As Pippi Longstocking says: "I've never done that before. So I'm sure I can do it!"

Read "my home" before requesting to stay with me! I understand it can be tempting to send off ten requests in a hurry sometimes, but I don't lead a normal life and it's important that guests know my lifestyle in advance ✌️

Что привело меня на Couchsurfing

I LOVE being outdoors, and when I'm home and can host, I will prioritize to host travelers who want to see the wonderful nature that surrounds Tromsø. I'm always up for hiking, skiing or going on other adventures in the area.

When I'm travelling - which happens quite often - I always prefer staying with couchsurfers because it gives an unique possibility to meet locals and experience genuine culture.

Музыка, кино и книги

Of monsters and men, Kråkesølv and Ukes of Hazard are my favourites in music, although I listen to everything and also love playing the ukulele myself. For books and movies the major favourites are Guardians of the galaxy and the norwegian trilogy "de fire og han som gjør galt verre".

Классная вещь, которую я сделал(-а)

I'm not sure I would use the word "amazing" for this experience as much as "terrifying" or "insane". Yet it makes for a good story and its been long enough for me to appreciate it by now.
It was my 2nd week in the Yukon territory, Canada. I was doing dog mushing in the fall - using a quad as there still wasn't any sign of snow. As I turned a corner there was a grizzly bear cub on the trail, but it took off into the woods as the dogs blasted by. However, on the opposite side of the trail I suddenly saw its mother on her hind legs. She started chasing me and the dogs; when I looked behind me she was mere inches from my back. And then we crashed... The quad flipped over and as I laid on my back with the huge grizzly - even bigger than the quad - standing on her hind legs hovering over me. I'm sure it happened in seconds but it felt like an eternity; all I could think was "I don't want to die. Why haven't I done more with my life by now? I can't die. I'm too young." Then the amazing, wonderful, awesome, life saving dogs did that thing that dogs do... they barked. And it was enough to make the grizzly hesitate for a second or two, which again was enough to flip the quad back over again and get on. She continued chasing us but the further we came from where we had met her cub the slower she ran and eventually, after a couple of miles, she stopped, got up on her hind legs, sniffed the air, before taking off into the woods.
Man's best friend saved my life that day.

Учу, учусь, делюсь опытом и информацией

I can share stories from life in the north, from adventures behind a dog sled under the northern lights, or from music festivals in the midnight sun.

And as I've already mentioned, I'm always up for an adventure. Whther it be trekking up a mountain, swimming in the Tromsø fjords, or visiting the bars in Tromsø which all has some unique atmosphere.

Чем я могу поделиться с хостами

When travelling I try to bring along Norwegian chocolate (although there's never enough!) and I always have all of my great stories to share :)
If there's time I tend to try cooking some Norwegian meals for hosts, but honestly it more often than not end in disaster as I'm a terrible cook!

Also, if my hosts have time I love spending time with the people I meet along the road!
