About Me

Please note that I live approximately one hour from Naha airport and cannot provide transportation. You are welcome to catch the bus to Ikento bus stop and I can collect you there. I also recommend renting a car if possible in Okinawa.

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission to experience as many things and places as possible while having a good time and fulfilling my life dreams. I can be indecisive at times and spontaneous but never boring. I enjoy the small simple things in life and the big adventures.

ABOUT ME

I'm always ready for a new experience, I'm open-minded and considerate and love meeting new people. I can be serious and thoughtful or outgoing and fun. 5 years ago I lived in Spain teaching English in a public high school in Valladolid and then Madrid. I absolutely loved living in Spain and traveling throughout Europe; it was incredible. I was not the biggest fan of teaching but I'm grateful to have had the job so I could live in Europe.
I come from a very conservative part of the US and family and coming to Europe and living in a big city was bit of a shock at first. I've learned so many things and had many of my beliefs altered and reinforced while living abroad. I feel that now I can hold an unbiased view on many different issues because of my experiences here and learning from both points of view. I love talking to people that differ from myself and that can challenge me to think outside the box.

In 2012 I moved to Austin, TX after making a career switch to banking. Austin is a great city and very different from the rest of the South of the US and especially other Texan cities. I loved my time spent in Austin and miss the people and fun atmosphere that the city brought. I realized that I have a serious case of wanderlust and that the only remedy was to move yet again.

Now I am in Okinawa, Japan and am loving every minute of it. This is an island paradise complete with a unique culture and laid back lifestyle that I have grown accustomed to. I have the opportunity to travel, better myself, and learn new things all the time. I am thrilled to be here and want to share it with others!

PHILOSOPHY

I never really thought about my own philosophy before but I guess I would have to say something like be yourself, which isn't exactly original but I can expand on it. Be yourself in any and all situations and if you can't be then ask yourself why. Don't allow yourself to be miserable for any reason whether it be for family, friends, job etc. If you don't like where you are then change. Change can be the absolute scariest thing for some but it's something I've come to love. The idea of my life being the same forever is not something I want. So to review; be yourself and accept change. Be the person you know you are :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on here to show people Okinawa because it needs to be seen! I know that from an American point of view, many people don't know where it is. We have heard of it but many people (including myself before I came) aren't exactly where it is on the map. I also travel quite frequently and enjoy it much more when I am with a native or local that lives there.

Interests

Besides travelling I love videogames, reading, learning languages, spending time with friends, going out, and new technology.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Lord of the Rings, all super hero movies, Black Swan, Disney classics, El Laberinto del Fuano, Titanic, many more.

Music- I like most current music and 90s music. Stuff like Paramore and Breaking Benjamin I love.

Books- Harry Potter series, Eragon series, Twilight series, Hunger Games series, all the teen fantasy stuff I seem to really dig haha.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This one time I lived in Austin, TX making decent money in a bank then I up and left to become a teacher in Okinawa, Japan. No regrets!

Teach, Learn, Share

I could help anyone with their English and even Spanish (unless your level is higher than mine haha) and I'm absolutely obsessed with technology as I used to work for Apple in the US. I can also offer you a unique background of life in the south of US which is quite different from places like New York, LA, etc.
As for me, I love languages so anyone that speaks anything other than English is already very cool to me.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Malta, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam
