ABOUT ME

Well, guys, I realize that MOST of you Couchsurfing members are twenty-and-thirty-somethings and I am WAY outside of that age range, BUT .... nearly all of my friends, most of whom have yet to see age 50, will tell you that I am young in thought. And so the story goes.... I've always believed [and still do] that you are as old as you think regardless of your chronological age. I'm a Virgo and as such I tend to be a perfectionist so if I ever have the privilege of couchsurfing at your place, I will leave it in pristine condition and that I would expect the same if you couchsurf at my place.. I respect peoples' privacy and will never invade nor encroach on your privacy. My friends will tell you that I am honest to a "T" and that I will tell you what's on my mind -- in other words, you'll always know where you stand with me. Last but not least, if we do become friends, you'll find me to be loyal -- I cherish and love my friends and I'll go to the ends of the earth to support and protect them and our friendship.

PHILOSOPHY

As I stated above, people should live & let live! People tend to be too judgmental about others' lifestyles and living, but the bottom line is, you can learn something from every single person you encounter on this Earth! While I tend to be somewhat introverted, I have a curiosity about other people: their lives, their hopes and desires and their accomplishments. Somewhere out there is my soul mate -- I will find him sooner or later and who knows? Perhaps through CS? And yes, I am proudly and happily gay!

Initially, I will participate by hosting CSers from around the world but ultimately, I will be a Surfer myself!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

New to this: None yet! But oh, am I ready!

兴趣

I am a retired lawyer, worked for the State in the Court system for most of my adult working career. I've also had several stabs at entrepreneurship. I had a Bed & Breakfast in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and a Coffee & Gift Shop here in Portland. Though I am now retired, I remain busy -- I'm a serious amateur photographer and I also enjoy writing [I've written one novel on which I am putting finishing touches -- a murder mystery set in Mexico]. I'm going to give a shot at travel photojournalism and travel writing which will include some extensive travelling and hence my reason for joining couchsurfing!

I recently went to a TESOL school and got certified as a TESL/TEFL teacher and a second certification in Teaching Business English. While ultimately I plan to 'work' my way around the world, I am heading first to Central & South America and plan to check places out and apply for teaching positions along the way. I hope CS will be a great assist to me in this endeavour. If my gracious CS hosts could give me the low-down on apartments rentals and the like, I will be forever indebted to them and hopefully they will become lifelong friends.

I tend to go for Drama, Mystery and Coming of Age movies. A few of my favorite movies: Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett), Bad Education (Gael Garcia Bernal), Motorcycle Diaries (Gael Garcia Bernal -- think I might like him ???), Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont (Joan Plowright, Rupert Friend) and countless others.

As for music, I like all kinds with the exception of Heavy Metal, Rap and most Country.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Well, I guess the first thing that left me awestruck was walking up on stage to receive my Baccalaureate degree. Since I was the first person ever in my family to get a degree, I was pretty awestruck by that.

The second thing was in London. I was standing on the Mall the opening day of Parliament. I had placed myself so I could get a good shot of Queen Elizabeth II. As her carriage approached I raised my camera and I could not believe that as she passed by, she looked directly at me and smiled & waved. She was no more than ten feet from me so there was no mistaking to whom she was waving. Indeed, I was awestruck!
