About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to see the world!

ABOUT ME

I am close to my family; I have a strong network of friends. I think I'm wise.

I am a relentless self-improver. I'm always figuring out how to be more of the person I WANT to be in this world.

I put myself in the spiritual but not religious category. I feel there is something bigger and more powerful than all of us. I feel most religions reflect an element of that larger truth.

I lived in Madrid for 1 WONDERFUL year in the 90s.

PHILOSOPHY

I love quotes; they are nuggets of distilled wisdom.

"Keep fighting."
"Be kind, for everyone you meet fights a hard battle."
"For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them."
"Quitters never win. Winners NEVER quit."
"Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the ONLY thing."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like to meet couch surfers in other countries and show visitors my city.

Interests

I read TONS, travel, and practice yoga. Oh, and I meditate EVERY morning. I taught yoga and meditation for 3 years. I volunteered with refugees from Cuba for years. I helped them resettle in Kansas City, MO.

I'm always searching for God. I study religions intensely. Don't belong to a single one, yet in many ways I feel at the same time that I belong to ALL of them. I feel at home in any religious community.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite movies: Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart, Cold Mountain, Sommersby, Slumdog Millionaire, Amores Perros. I LOVED Cloud Atlas (it isn't a favorite, but I loved it).

Books: I love the Alpha/Omega series by Patricia Briggs. I love non-fiction biographies, self-help, and memoirs.

Music: I LOVE film scores. My favorite score of all time is Last of the Mohicans. I also LOVE folk music (folk rock, folk pop, folk country).
The song Dust in the Wind by Kansas inspired me to learn guitar at age 32! That song is about fragility.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I skydived from 10,000 feet. That was pretty awesome.

In December 2012 I traveled with a Buddhist lama and 5 other Buddhists to visit Buddhist prisoners in a medium level security prison in Missouri. The prisoners prepared a meal for us to show gratitude for our visit. It was a very eye opening experience.

Seeing the Christ the Redeemer statue up close in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was a pretty powerful/personal experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn Arabic and French. :-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm very clean. You'll hardly know I'm there. I'm a great listener, fun, and I'm really great at encouraging people to pursue their dreams.
