About Me

My goal is to travel to all 7 continents by the time I'm in my early thirties. I'm 4/7 but the most difficult ones still lie ahead.

When I first moved to Austin, TX, I couchsurfed for a month and a half while looking for a job and an apartment. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to explore the city through the eyes of natives (ish since everybody is new ish in Austin). I've finally found a job and an apartment. I have since hosted numerous people from first timers to experienced CSers in Austin, TX. I wanted to give back to the community that has given me so much. Throughout my time using couchsurfing in Europe and in the United States, I've done nothing but surf (I've always wanted to host but had never lived in very touristy or high traffic places). It's time I give back to the community and host; however, if you send me a generic copy-paste message or a message that shows 0 interest in me as a person other than an opportunity for a free couch, I will without reservation decline your request. Please include in your request your favorite country(or countries) that you've been in or countries that you want to go to and why and your favorite travel story/anecdote. I want to see the person behind the message other than "blah blah blah I'm visiting blah blah blah Can you host me? blah blah blah me me me me me."

I graduated from the University of Mississippi, Ole Miss for short. During my time there, I went on study abroad to China and Sweden. I got introduced to couchsurfing when I studied abroad in Sweden. It was a huge resource to me to travel through Sweden and many European countries. The European people I met were the best kind of people. They've been so ridiculously trusting to the point of giving me a key to their apartments and letting me come and go as I please. One of the couchsurfing hosts that I stayed with in Lyon, France just gave me the keys to her place and left for Paris, France since it was Christmas. I've never abused that trust nor do I ever intend to abuse that trust. I honestly haven't had a single bad experience with this community and have nothing but fond memories.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I lived near downtown Austin, TX, I hosted numerous people as a way to give back to the community that has so graciously taken me in when I needed it. I was the safeguard for numerous travelers that were last minute people and didn't have a place to stay for the night. I have since moved away from downtown Austin, TX and have started to live with a roommate close to my work. My roommate is very....particular and I do not see her consenting to her letting CSers crash on our couches. As such, I cannot host for the time being. As soon as I buy my own place and find like minded individuals, I will resume hosting. As of right now, I will be traveling to Cuba and Paris/Venice/Barcelona soon. I hope that I can find some kindred spirits in Cuba.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed extensively in Europe. I have surfed in Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany, Czech Republic, and Hungary. Recently, I moved to Austin, TX and have surfed my first 1.5 months here. Everyone that I've met has been graciously generous and trusting. Positive reviews all around.

Interests

Credit card churning (I get free points that I can redeem for more traveling), reading, kayaking, cooking, weight lifting, running, dota 2, reddit (my favorite subreddits as of now are /r/churning, /r/financialindependence, /r/dota2). I like a lot of things but I enjoy pretty much anything outdoorsy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: The Strokes, Billy Joel, The Cure

Books: Anything by Shakespeare

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traditional Finnish Sauna then jumping in the Baltic Sea for a quick Swim.

Seeing the Aurora Borealis in person.

Swimming with whale sharks in La Paz, Mexico.

Eating Surströmming (pickled, rotten herring) in Sweden to impress a French girl (.....she was not impressed). Eating blood and liver sausage in Berlin. Eating Escargot in Paris. (I'll deny it if you ask me but when I was 6-7 years old in China, my grandpa hypothetically ordered dog and I hypothetically ate it. It hypothetically tasted like beef). I really like eating weird things. I would probably eat anything just to say that I have as long as it's a "traditional" food of a culture.

Skydiving. I jumped out of a plane at around 14000 ft. I did not die..I think.

Having sex with a hooker in Amsterdam. Jk. Though it is really nice to have pretty girls wink at you when you walk around the Red Light District.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:

I absolutely love eating but hate spending loads of money eating out. Due to those reasons, I have become a very proficient cook. I make food from a lot of different cultures. Some of my favorite have been Chinese dumplings, Chinese mapo tofu, red bean paste buns, Swedish meatballs, cajun gumbo, cajun pasta, and BBQ pulled pork. I love love love spicy food. If you have very spicy spices, I'd love it if you could share a little.

Learn:

The whole point of me hosting people is to learn about the different cultures of the world. I want to hear the stories of your countries so that maybe it'll entice me to travel to them one of these days.

Share:

I'd gladly share for living spaces for a chance to learn about your culture, food, customs, language, etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts
