About Me

ABOUT ME

I am a girl with a craving for adventure and an irrepressible longing to go, see, experience... I travel with only the barest of plans, I hate standing in lines, I generally abhor "tourist attractions," and I really just want to go somewhere and exist there, to get a feel for the pace and flavor of life in that place. Life is busy enough - travel should be full of wonder and discovery, not agendas and crowds and stress! When I travel, I like to just walk along, and soak in the world.

I have a sarcastic and often NSFW sense of humor. (Unless you work at my job, in which case it is the only way to cope with the ridiculousness of our days and maintain a faint semblance of sanity!) Plus, sense of humor + lack of panic reflex = I'm excellent in an emergency. haha

I like to sleep in, I hate being told what to do, and I know how to ride a horse, in case that's important. I like long showers. I'm allergic to cats. I hate wearing pants. I have a love/hate relationship with comfortable shoes (why, oh why, do they have to be so ugly??) I can't eat dairy, and am flirting with veganism. I'm finally learning to cook, with mixed results. I love board games. I like modern art museums and live music, though I can neither play nor paint! I used to write - mostly funny vignettes to entertain my friends - but it seems I've lost my focus, so I'm hoping to find myself re-inspired soon.

I vacillate between thriving off of the bustle of urban life, and the occasional desperate need for a long, winding road and wide, open spaces. I appreciate the outdoors, in reasonable doses. Please don't ask me to go hiking/mtn biking/rockclimbing with you - I'll admire, even envy, your outdoorsy-ness, but from afar.

I am drawn to the eclectic, the unexpected, the dilapidated, the abandoned, the forgotten. I love ghost towns, small towns, old buildings, quirky neighborhoods. I hate how the American landscape is becoming an increasingly homogenous display of stripmalls and big box stores.

PHILOSOPHY

Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate this moment and make the next one worthy of your limited time.

Things I like: friends, food, beer, Vespas, pugs, live music, old movies, trying new things, seeing new places, roadtrips, fluffy towels, books, history, and .... This list could get ridiculously long. hahaha

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read, but I'm no scholar. There are huge gaps in my education, so I'm now trying to go back and fill some of them. New Year's Resolution included reading two Shakespeare plays. Good thing I still have 6 mos to get that done. Haha

I like books and movies and art that tickles my dark sense of humor.

I love documentaries - I like the exposure to lives so very different than my own. I like dramas and offbeat comedy. I can't/won't watch horror b/c (1) I have an overactive imagination and don't need the nightmares and (2) the world is shitty enough on it's own, without adding fictional fear to the mix.

I don't own a TV - but I still catch the occasional show online. Mad Men, anyone?

I love listening to the blues. I also have a strange attraction to big band music. (Maybe I should learn to swing dance?) I secretly want to learn to play the drums someday.
