About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Something else!

ABOUT ME

I'm a happy, chatty, upbeat Australian looking to see and share and experience a little more of the world. I study and teach sociology for work, and otherwise enjoy reading, writing, running, music, clear skies, cloudy skies, good company, thrift stores, enjoying a drink and laughing with friends. I geniuinely love meeting new people and experiencing new places, as well as sharing all that I have to offer with others, which is why I've signed up on here

PHILOSOPHY

"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies - God damn it, you've got to be kind.
-Kurt Vonnegut

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted couchsurfers before as part of a share house, and enjoyed showing them that Canberra can be more than a 'two-day town'. I'm only now setting up my own account though, as I'm travelling solo for a while and looking to meet great new people to share that time with and maybe even return host some day in the future

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Best experiences to date have been showing people the things you tend to take for granted in your own city - experiencing them afresh and reminding yourself there can be fun and wonder at home if you look at it right!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: David Lynch! Paul Thomas Anderson! Tarantino! Wes Anderson! Charlie Kaufman! Also a bunch of real pulpy super fun things like Bond films and Sharknado... Shark films are boss
My favourite authors (as in, the ones I read EVERYTHING by) are Kurt Vonnegut and Haruki Murakami, but there's a tonne of other things I enjoyy reading and I <3 recommendations too. Also any comics by Neil Gaiman!
TV: Twin Peaks is just the greatest thing. Generally I am far less into TV than other media but I love House of Cards, Arrested Development, Star Trek: TNG, and a few other things

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My CS hosts in Santz Cruz drove me down the coast in the middle of this perfect, full moon night to sneak into some gorgeous natural hot springs, where we soaked under the stars and watched waves breaking on the cliffs below. That was pretty cool. Another favourite experience was cycling from Berlin to Prague with a couple other Aussie ladies last year - it was our first cycle tour but we eased right into it with the aid of a €5 tent, some novelty bike horns, and a lot of lazing by the river, eating fresh blackberries from the roadside, and taking in the local biergartens :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Morocco, New Zealand, Russian Federation, Spain, Thailand, Timor-Leste (East Timor), Turkey, United Kingdom, United States
