About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travelling!!!

ABOUT ME

HOI!

I am Sam (pronounce with short "a" like in the word "like" the sound you make just after the "l" and before the "ike". pronounce as you like if you don't give a fck because Dutch is difficult.)

I come from the Netherlands and have been traveling on and off through the southern hemisphere for about six years now. I had a ticket that brought me to South-Africa and New-Zealand. It should have brought me to Chile, Peru and back to the Netherlands as well.
I got stuck in New-Zealand and spent as long as was legal for a non-resident there.
After that, went home, fell in love and started travelling together. NZ, WA, SE Asia, home... And now East Australia.

I'm eager to learn from and with people from other cultures and philosophies.

I love to move: I like sports, surfing and being near water.
I like to listen to (80's)RHCP, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Gorillaz, Queens of the stone age and many more.

My work involves/ involved youth with behavioral problems. And I teached Sports at a school.

PHILOSOPHY

Long story but if I meet you you could always ask. Thus far no dogmatic things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I could keep your couch warm for you. Can be pretty handy in and around the house. Behave pleasantly.
I am settling down in the Netherlands now and wil have a bed available for other surfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had my first couchsurf experience in Cape Town! Really enjoyed it, learned a lot and experienced nice genuine things with a guy who wanted to show me the surroundings that he has been brought up in.
I have been couchsurfing in Mtunzini South- Africa with very nice people I met on my travels.
And I was hosted in a sub-urb of Johannesburg just before traveling to New-Zealand.

The People in South-Africa have been very hospitable to me.

New Zealand started of with an awkward CS experience (dishonorable requests that I had to strongly decline) but has not thrown me off to visit again! It is definitely a good story when I visit.

Interests

philosophy, music (Listening and making), sports so on.
Something I recently found is Slack-lining. I can be found in a park with a broad band lodged between two trees.
I have a big passion for surfing, which I do in the Dutch sea (practically a lake between GB and the Netherlands). Or on a trip to any ocean beach or reef.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lots of the first two. Have some difficulty with the latter but am trying.

Have seen a lot of movies, and love to listen to music. I'm reading some literature.

Queens of the stone age, Them Crooked vultures, Pink Floyd, Steely-Dan, Zero seven, Audio Bullies, Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, Bob Dylan, Caravan Palace, Opgezwolle, Fresku, Portishead, Radiohead, Prince, Raconteurs, Gorillaz, Rage against the machine, RHCP, Propellorheads, Peter Fox, Outkast, Jurassic 5, Missy Elliot, Mr. Scruff, Jack Parrow, Galactic, Fats Waller, Billy Holiday, C-mon & Kypski and so on.

Matrix, swedish millenium trilogy, Donny Darko, Adams Apples, Hajao Miyazaki, Quintin Tarantino, Guy Richy (revolver!), Coen Brothers (no country for old men/ Big lebowski), Men in Black, Tenacious D, Anchor man, STAR WARS, for people who tend to get confused I have watched all of Star-Trek (voyager) as well and am shamefully proud of it.

My attention span for reading is so short that IF I get to read a book I often try to read up on the classics or philosophy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spitskop in Namibia. Never felt myself more insignificant and connected with my surroundings.

Teach, Learn, Share

Taekwon-do, gymnastics, movement capability's. Some human biology. can explain how to start of with surfing if you like.

I like making music where as I might be part of the percussion and or bass part of the music. Like to learn some chords on the guitar.

Want to learn spanish, i'm allready making a start. I can teach you some nasty dutch.
