About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Rencontrer des Parisiens qui aiment la musique et qui veulent bien vivre la bohème avec moi pour quelques jours!

ABOUT ME

Let's go humanité, One Love moving back to Jah!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the best examples I can think of for this category was my 2 week "canot" (boat) camping trip through a summer camp. On that trip I witnessed the triviality of things and the greatness of life in experiencing new things. I learned that to live a person only needs food in his belly and clothes on his back, and everything else is luxury. This sounds obvious I know, but, coming from my typical middle class suburban home, at the time it was a revelation. Those two weeks were some of the best in my life, despite my being stuck with a cold (which almost made me not go). One of my guides was the most positive, energized, loving, and life loving guy I had ever met and I believe he influenced in my current way of thinking. I made a lot of friends, saw and lived with raw and untamed nature, saw a ton of stars, sweated bucket loads, burned armloads of snotty Kleenex, shed a little blood, and grinned the whole time. This was my first taste of a new way of life that would grow on me to make me who I am today.

I went to Nicaragua for a much too short 2 weeks on a volunteering trip. There we renovated a school in a poor condition. I was saddened, but not awestruck by the poverty I witnessed, having already seen as poor and poorer places, nor by the simplistic way of life. The above mentioned boat camping trips with no luxury whatsoever had already made me comfortable with dirt and hard work. Rather I dug the positive elements of the trip. What inspired me the most was the warmth and kindness of the people and the liveliness of the city (Granada). It was also my first solo international trip and my first one among the people. Until now, I had mostly stayed, with my family, in nice hotels with tourist oriented programs/guides/tours/etc.. In Nicaragua, I met so many great people and, during my sole weekend off, got such a sweet taste of life on the road that I know now that I want to travel much, much more. At the end of my stay, I was proud of the work accomplished and sad to have to go so early. I was foolish to plan only 2 weeks, but now I know I have found a passion of mine in traveling and social work.
