HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm old school, from the days where couchsurfing was about meeting unusual people and having conversations you couldn't have with strangers... it wasn't about being too cheap to spend $30 on a hostel.

So if you're going to request to stay with me, I expect more than a message saying your name and your itinerary. Tell me why you want to stay with ME.

I have met the best kinds of people through this stupid site, through this simple concept...of opening yourself up to connecting with strangers from strange lands.

Drifting along in the crackling silence on the great barrier reef, a shadow looming in the blue distance..a sea turtle strokes my way. Such iridescent stripes! Such a beautiful, slow, silent wonder.

Sheltering from a monsoonal downpour under the eaves of a church on the Upper West Side late one summer night, a beautiful man, refusing to leave me umbrella-less..making his way home saturated so that I could get home warm and dry. The best kind of people, they don't ask for anything from you, they only give.
