About Me

I'm a soon-to-be law student interested in migrants' and LGBT rights. Right now I work with children who are in immigration proceedings here in the US. NYC is my intellectual, spiritual and physical home, and I love visiting other cities to connect with like-minded people and strengthen our global community(ies) of queer people, activists, etc.

Also, I love baking.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To share my worldview with others and to get a sense of life for other fabulous people in other fabulous places all over this fabulous world.

Interests

Sitting at cafes for hours, navigating subways/metros, classic Hollywood, political theory, marveling at Beethoven, being a queer person.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Between the Acts and To the Lighthouse (and really anything by my girl Ginny Woolf), The Power and the Glory, Pygmalion, Eric Hobsbawm's history of 19th century Europe, Death in Venice, The Power Broker, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, The Art of Simple Food.

Movies: All About Eve, Mildred Pierce, The Panic in Needle Park, Goodfellas, The Passion of Joan of Arc, The Graduate, On the Waterfront, Pulp Fiction, Brokeback Mountain, Gold Diggers of 1933 (especially this remarkable scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzMy7-7WV44), Clue.

Food: Ripe pears, almonds, sherry, nutmeg, polenta, barley, lemon curd on pound cake, arugula.

Music: The truth is I mostly listen to Beethoven on the go.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Night train from Barcelona to Granada was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. Beautiful scenery and unbelievably kind Andalusian people.

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't think any of these three is possible without the other, (unless you have an imperialist attitude towards learning, which I guess most schools do...phooey.)

Anyway, traveling for me is about understanding how the setting in which I've grown up and currently live has created "me" and comparing that to the way others have been influenced by their setting.

I can also find you really good bagels, pizza, ice cream and assorted other foods in New York if that's a lot.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd love to chat over drinks or coffee and, if you're interested, over a meal, which I can cook for you! For those making the trip, I can also offer insider NYC tricks, the most important of which is, perhaps, that a-n-y Starbucks can be your free WiFi hotspot and/or bathroom break locale. You don't have to buy anything!

If you're spending a weekend in New York, this website is a lifesaver: https://subwayweekender.wordpress.com. Every week they upload a map of service changes for the upcoming weekend. (As every NYer knows, weekend service changes can be extremely confusing and annoying!) ¡Consultad esta página si vais a pasar un fin de semana en NY para que no os agarren desprevenidos los cambios de servicio!
