ABOUT ME

I'm Dana! I'm 26 years old and I live in Philadelphia.

I love dancing, making art, and spinning fire with my friends.

In 2011 I spent some time studying abroad in Spain and I realized that I not only love Spain, but I love traveling. I went back to Spain on a Fulbright grant and lived there for a year in 2013 and it was an amazing experience. Before I left I was working a full-time office job as an assistant editor. I quit my job before I left, and I've avoided the desk-life ever since. I've built a career out of being a circus entertainer and freelance writer. So, I teach hula hoop classes to children and adults, perform at all types of events, and write for a few publications. Stringing along a bunch of jobs can be hectic at times, but I enjoy what I do and I'm happy to have the freedom that comes along with self-employment.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing to make friends and build connections in new places. I've been on here for awhile to find events and people in Philadelphia and the cities I've visited or lived in. I haven't had a chance to surf or host surfers yet, but I hope to be able to do both of those things soon. I love traveling and staying with locals to get an authentic experience in a new place. I also love hosting guests because I treat it as a special occasion and opportunity to show off the city I live in and love so much.

Intereses

I am interested in all types of art. I love going to see live performances like concerts, circuses (no animals though) and theater productions. I love to read, write, play the guitar, dance, and sing. I am very interested in the circus arts. I hula hoop and perform with a bunch of different fire props for work and for fun. I am also learning how to be an aerialist and a pole dancer. I don't have any pets of my own, but I am an animal lover.

As far as books go, to name a few I'm a big fan of the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty, The Night Circus, American Gods, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, and Steal Like an Artist.

I don't watch movies very often, but some movies I like are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, How to Train Your Dragon, and Big Fish.

Some artists I'm listening to right now include Zero 7, ODESZA, Bonobo, Emancipator, Beats Antique, Blackmill, Grammatik, and Florence and the Machine. I listen to a lot of different music and go through phases where I listen to particular artists a lot.

I went on a roadtrip through NW Spain and visited a bunch of remote beaches on the coast. Llanes and Celurio were my absolute favorites.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can teach hula hooping and talk about being an artist. I have some health stuff that has lead me to be gluten free for about ten years now, so if I can access a grocery store I can share some delicious gluten-free cuisine. I like learning about new people and how they live in other places.

I can share knowledge about being self-employed and being an artist. I am a hoop dance instructor, so I can teach hosts how to hoop if they'd like. I used to be an editor and I can offer advice on any sort of writing project. I am also a very good listener and love sharing stories with new people.
