About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To escape the rat race and start making a difference to the world.

ABOUT ME

I am a very sociable person. I love to chat, laugh and swap stories with interesting and smart people from around the world.

I'm British. I've travelled all over the world and lived in four different countries, I am now I'm settled in Hexham, UK.

I am calm and easy-going, provided people are respectful, and I can be sensible or silly in equal measures. Some people say I'm a bit eccentric, but that just means I don't fit into someone else's box, right?

PHILOSOPHY

Work to live, not live to work.
Things are only impossible until they've been done.
We're all here for a reason. Figure out what yours is and make it happen!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just figuring that out. I'll start by hosting!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm new to couch surfing but I love the concept. I've enjoyed meeting backpackers at hostels in the past and I think this is a great way to meet like minded people and to build up a network of friends in foreign parts.

Interests

I'm passionate about new experiences and new ideas. More specifically, I love writing (fiction & non fiction), travel, movies, discussing interesting topics. I'm always trying to develop ideas, try new things and I am definitely a jack of all trades, master of none. I also love cooking, swimming, cycling, badminton and have recently discovered the joys of fishing.
I'm proudly British but consider myself a citizen of the world, having lived in US, Australia and now Canada.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love independent movies, especially sci-fi and fantasy but also international movies. I'm a huge fan of the Fantasia Festival. Some examples: Absentia, Black Pond, Black Lightning, Disappearance of Alice Creed, Frozen (not the Disney one), Castaway on the Moon, Carre Blanc, Detention.

Music wise I like all sorts, from grunge to 80s pop. Some of my favourite bands include Garbage, VNV Nation, Metric, Placebo, Nirvana, Kylie, Pink, Robyn, Smashing Pumpkins, Alanis Morissette, Dido, Eminem.

Books I've enjoyed: Northern Lights/Golden Compass trilogy by Phillip Pullman, almost anything by Michael Crichton, The Light of Other Days by Arthur C Clarke, also short stories by Philip K Dick, Roald Dahl.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1. Getting heatstroke from climbing a Guatemalan volcano on Christmas Day.
2. Getting lost in a Malaysian jungle, only to be rescued by an Iraqi family.
3. Seeing the awesome force of the water at the edge of Niagara Falls.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would be happy to show you around some local sights such as Hadrian's Wall and other Roman sites.

Beyond my area, here are some of the other things I could help with:

I can teach how to build your own website, or how to program.

I am a writer and can share techniques and give feedback to other writers or want-to-be writers.
