About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to meet everyone in the world and sample their food. To live and sail and host people on my own personal tall ship "Magic" a 42' Yawl

ABOUT ME

I am an adventurer with itchy feet and a lust for other cultures, their foods and customs. I love foreign accents. My friends would say that I am a nice, kind, generous person who likes to joke and tease. They would describe me as a community volunteer and someone who is trustworthy. I long to be living again aboard my sailboat and the idea of hosting couchsurfers on it is amazing to me.

PHILOSOPHY

pray always for wisdom, and while I am waiting for that to happen, love others. Without personal relationships with God and others, and God as I find Him in others, I am nothing. Always the struggle to go from "self-ish" to "other-ish". Always the strugle to not be deaf or blind. Marvel in the world and the universe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In life?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Nothing official. I have travelled throughout the Bahamas on board my vessel to the United States and to Canada over a 17 year live-aboard period. I have travelled by car, plane, and bus through Colombia, Panama, all of Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatamala, Mexico, United States, Bahamas and Canada.

Interests

My biggest vice is sailing. I own a 42 foot ocean capable two masted yawl. I hope to visit all of the places I mentioned in this boat. I love coral reefs, old world architecture, live theatre, museums, eating with other cultures and sampling their food and customs (the only thing I don't like is some cheeses - but I eat pizza !!) I want to visit all of the old cathedrals of europe and the holy land. I like to dance and meet people

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything good. "Good" changes. Sometimes it feeds my intellectual side, sometimes the little boy in me, or the (sometimes too adult)male, sometimes the romantic, or the adventurer. A diet of only "A" or "B" is unhealthy. Music can range from the 60's rock 'n roll to Andrea Boccelli or New Orleans Blues. Books - sailing, navigation, science fiction

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

watching the ocean on fire with phosphorescent plankton at 1:00 a.m. en route from the Bahamas. It was a mirror calm night and you could see every fish as a trail of fire in the water and the boat's wake was a ribbon of fire over the horizon. It was a night beyond description and we were all mesmerized for hours watching the fiery display. The entire ocean was exploding with life and illumination. 2.) Standing on the deck of my anchored boat in Lake Worth Inlet Florida as the eye of a hurricane passed over me. 20 minutes of errie silence where I could see the stars before the eye wall overtook me and the rest of the hurricane thundered on for another.... hour? 3.) Driving the trans american highway through Mexico over the mountains with incredible sheer cliffs inches from the ashphalt plunging a thousand feet to the valley below. 4.) the most incredible of all though was holding a newborn baby and having him fall asleep on my chest. I can't believe my life and the things God has laid at my feet.........

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a Jack of all trades and master of none. I know a little about working with and repairing boats of course, rigging, fiberglass and epoxy, navigation. I play guitar and imagine myself as Jimmy Buffet where in reality I fall FAR short of that :-) I enjoy psychology and the sciences

What I Can Share with Hosts

My ears. I want to know who you are as you chose to let me read "your book", my eyes, both external and internal, my story, according to how you wish to read, and my sailboat, should you wish to visit or even crew for a while. I no longer have my house in Owen Sound Canada and usually my vessel is in Florida or Bahamas or.... and yeah...it really is soooo cool

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, Costa Rica, United States
